It was around noon when Mary finally finished all her weekend homework. She stretched her arms, feeling free, and decided to wander around the big house to see what everyone was doing.
First, she went to the living room, thinking she might find her mother there reading a book or having tea, but the room was empty. Then she checked the garden, but no one was there either. Even the kitchen, which was usually busy, was silent.
Feeling a little puzzled, Mary went upstairs and pushed open the door to her mother's bedroom. Maybe she had gone to rest? But no... the room was neat, quiet, and completely empty.
Mary frowned. If her mother wasn't around, maybe Alex was. Her older brother usually stayed in his room, either reading or working on something. Deciding to check there next, Mary started walking down the long hallway toward his room.
As she was making way towards her destination, someone came in her way. It was none other than the head maid, Gray.
