Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4 Sweet Hero part 2

Jake stretched his arms wide and caught Princess Bubblegum before she could crash into the hard frosting floor. His body ballooned and softened like a trampoline, absorbing the impact with a gentle bounce. The princess was trembling in his arms, her magenta hair tangled and frayed, the sweet scent of bubblegum mixed with smoke. Her gown, once pristine, was ripped and charred, bruises blooming across her pink skin like spilled ink.

She blinked weakly, her eyes darting between the two figures who had saved her. A yellow dog with a bright green mohawk—and a boy.

The dog stirred something in her memory. A name. No, two names. Joshua and Margaret—famous yellow who is investigators problem solving in the OOO. She had heard of their adventures. She had heard they'd had children… two by blood, and one adopted. Her lips parted slightly. Could this yellow dog be one of theirs?

But her gaze quickly shifted to the boy standing beside him.

He didn't look like any mutant, nor like the candy citizens she ruled over. He couldn't have been more than five years old, swimming in oversized clothes—a Munsell-blue T-shirt tucked clumsily into dark blue shorts that had been rolled up to keep from dragging. A massive lime-green circular backpack hung off his shoulders, nearly half his size, stuffed to the brim with gods-know-what. And on his head sat a strange white bear-eared hat, drooping just slightly as if it weighed too much for his small frame.

Golden-blond hair peeked from beneath the hat, his fair skin smudged with dust. But what struck her most were his eyes—clear, sharp blue, piercing in a way no five-year-old's should have been. He stared at the bandit leader with an expression far too calm.

Jake gently lowered Princess Bubblegum behind them, puffing out his chest protectively. "Finn… any ideas?"

The boy didn't answer right away. His gaze never wavered from the towering mutant in front of them.

The leader was a beast of a man—broad-shouldered, with tusks jutting from his jaw, one broken from Bubblegum's desperate counterattack earlier. His face was a bloody mess: one eye ruined by her strike, the other cheek ripped open where Finn's arrows had already found their mark. His breathing was ragged, his fury palpable.

Around them, the rest of his crew lay scattered. Four were already dead, their bodies melted or shredded by the chemical chaos of Bubblegum's lab. The green-skinned woman with four arms—now down to one—slumped unconscious against the wall where Jake had slammed her. Blood poured freely from her wounds. She wouldn't last long.

The leader's voice shattered the tension like a hammer on glass.

"YOU—!" he roared, spittle flying from his tusked mouth. "YOU LITTLE BRAT! HOW DARE YOU WOUND ME!" He tore the arrows from his face, blood dripping from the broken shafts. He raised his massive club, his single tusk gleaming. "I'M SANTOS! THE GREATEST BANDIT IN ALL OF OOO! I'LL GRIND YOU BOTH INTO DUST!"

He charged.

"Jake! Enlarge your fists—hit him in the chest!" Finn barked, his tiny voice sharp with authority.

Jake didn't hesitate. His fists ballooned to the size of boulders. "On it, bro! HEEEYAAAH!" He swung with all his stretchy strength.

The fists collided with Santos's chest—but the mutant snarled and blocked it with his thick club, the wood groaning under the impact. Sparks of force rippled through the lab, glass shattering from the shockwave.

Finn didn't wait. His little legs carried him in a quick sprint around the mutant, glass crunching under his boots. His hands worked fast, reloading the crossbow from his oversized backpack. He spun, aimed—

THWIP! THWIP!

Two more arrows hissed through the smoky air, streaking toward the raging mutant…

---

Finn's arrows sliced through the smoke one after another, the twang of his crossbow echoing against the ruined walls. The mutant leader twisted and ducked, his battered face becoming a mask of blood and rage.

"You little LUMP!!" Santos roared, tusk flashing as he ignored Jake's massive frame. "I'll kill you FIRST!"

His boots cracked the frosting floor as he lunged, muscles bulging, arms swinging like a wrecking ball.

Finn's eyes narrowed. His tiny legs pushed him sideways, his rolled-up shorts catching on a fallen chair. He stumbled, one boot crunching on the melted flesh of a fallen bandit. The weight of his oversized backpack dragged him down, slowing his dodge—but his calm expression didn't break. Even as the giant shadow loomed over him, he simply raised his crossbow, steady as stone.

"Finn!" Jake bellowed, panic cutting through his voice. He stretched his arms and vaulted over the mutant's swing, tackling Santos from behind. Jake's body ballooned, morphing into thick slabs of muscle, and he slammed the bandit leader through a wall, then another, frosting and rubble exploding with every impact.

They crashed through three rooms before halting in a spray of debris. Jake's voice rattled the castle walls: "Stay away from my baby brother!!"

But Santos wasn't done.

The hulking mutant dragged himself upright, chest heaving, his single eye burning with fury. With a guttural roar, he lowered his head and charged like a bull, slamming his massive shoulder into Jake's stomach. The dog's huge frame folded under the force. Room after room shattered around them as Santos bulldozed forward, ignoring the cracks splintering across his own ribs.

"You weak DOG!" Santos spat, veins bulging in his neck. He seized Jake by the scruff and hurled him across the chamber. Jake slammed into a sugar-glass cabinet, his body snapping back into his normal form with a sickening thud.

Santos picked up a jagged shard of candy-glass from the wreckage, its edge sharp enough to glint like steel. He raised it high, saliva dripping from his tusked mouth. "Goodbye, mutt."

---

BOOOOM!

The explosion lit the room with fire. Santos screamed, his massive back torn open as flames licked across his shoulders. He staggered, smoke rolling off him in waves.

Jake coughed from the ground, his eyes wide. "What the—?"

Standing in the haze was Finn. His white bear-ear hat drooped against the glow of the fire. In his small hands he clutched a lit bottle, smoke rising from the rag jammed in its neck. Molotovs and sticks of dynamite bulged in Finn's oversized backpack—seem he get that from the bandit fallen comrads.

"Stay away from Jake," Finn said, his voice low, cold, far too old for his body.

Santos turned, half-blind, his skin blistering. His gaze locked on the boy, on those calm blue eyes that stared at him like a hunter cornering prey.

"YOU—AGAIN!" he roared, veins straining in his neck. "I'LL RIP YOU TO PIECES!"

He charged.

But this time Finn didn't step back. He sidestepped and wrenched something heavy off the ground—Santos's own spiked club, slick with blood.

WHAMP!!

The five-year-old swung with both hands. The wood cracked against the mutant's jaw, snapping his head sideways. Blood sprayed the walls.

Santos stumbled—His single eye went wide, seeing his own weapon, and heavies spiky club..being held by mere child. "H-how…?"

Finn didn't answer. He slammed the club down again, and again, and again. Each strike landed with a wet crunch, the bandit's face becoming more unrecognizable, caving beneath the boy's relentless blows.

Jake pushed himself to his elbows, staring in shock. The sound of wood breaking echoed through the lab as the spiked club finally splintered in Finn's hands. He let the broken weapon fall beside the twitching, half-dead body of Santos. The once-great bandit leader lay still, his tusk shattered, his eye swollen shut, his breath ragged.

Finn exhaled, his tiny chest rising and falling steadily. Then he tossed the ruined club aside and hurried to Jake.

"Jake! You okay?" Finn's voice softened as he helped pull his brother to his feet.

Jake groaned, rubbing his side. "Heh… yeah, bro. I've had worse—from Dad's wrestling 'lessons.' But man…" He looked over at the mangled form of Santos, then back at Finn. "You really went overboard with that guy. You sure you didn't kill him?"

Finn adjusted his big backpack, face calm again. "Don't worry. You already told me—we only kill demons and monsters that can't be saved. This guy? He'll live."

Jake chuckled, wincing at the pain in his ribs. "Hehehe… yeah, that's right. My little bro knows the rules."

Together, the two brothers turned their backs on the broken bandit leader, walking out of the ruined rooms with Princess Bubblegum safe behind them.

---

The battle was over, but the scars it left behind were plain to see.

The Candy Castle—once a towering layer cake of frosted tiers and candy ornaments—now bore a massive crater in its upper middle. Princess Bubblegum's lab, once her pride, hung in ruins. Walls were torn wide open, smoke still curling from the edges where fire had licked across melted sugar-bricks. Floors sagged, rooms collapsed into one another. The air smelled of burnt frosting and scorched licorice.

"Any Banana Guard still standing—seize Santos and what's left of his crew," Princess Bubblegum commanded, her voice steady despite the blood on her gown.

The guards obeyed. Santos, his face a ruined mess of bruises and swelling, was dragged across the rubble. Though barely recognizable, he still clung stubbornly to life, groaning as the medics bound his wounds. Three of his subordinates were taken alongside him: the lanky blue mutant with razor teeth—one of his eyes blinded by Finn's arrow—and the two female mutants, both unconscious. One was tall—wiry with a whip still strapped to her hip, the other gray-skinned and heavyset, her head lolling after Jake's knockout blow.

The four remaining corpses, including the green four-armed woman, were lifted and carried away. Princess Bubblegum called on Starchy, the kingdom's gravedigger. Once little more than a background figure, unlike his candy counter part in the show—he now stood taller and more human-shaped, though his round malt-ball head still gave him away still—he still made of candies.

"You got it, Princess," Starchy said, bowing his head. "Even lowlifes like these deserve dirt over their bones." With that, he and a handful of Banana Guards carried the bodies toward the burial grounds.

At last, silence settled over the wreckage. The Candy Kingdom had survived.

From the vaults beneath the castle, Peppermint Butler emerged. His sharp white eyes scanned the halls before he allowed the hidden candy citizens to return to the light. Their cheers filled the air as families reunited and prisoners were freed from shattered cages.

"Oh, Majesty—thank goodness you're unharmed!" Peppermint Butler hurried to Princess Bubblegum's side, helping the medics tend to her. Bruises marred her pink skin, and her gown was torn, but she stood tall, giving quiet orders even as she leaned on his arm.

(Author:pep-buts you blind...)

"Thank you, Peppermint," she said softly. "Help those who were taken. Make sure no one is left untreated."

"As you wish, Princess." Peppermint Butler bowed, already moving among the people, guiding medics, soothing fears.

Bubblegum's gaze, however, drifted elsewhere. To the two strangers who had turned the tide.

---

"Jake, you holding up?"

The small boy with the oversized hat spoke with a calm but worried voice.

Jake—bandaged by a nurse who looked like a humanoid sugar cube—grinned despite his bruises. "Aw, don't sweat it, Finn. That goober didn't leave a scratch that matters."

The nurse huffed. "Plenty of scratches, actually. Ribs bruised, muscles torn. You're lucky you're kind sorta magic, mister dog. Anyone else would be down for weeks." She tied the last bandage with a firm tug. "But I'm glad it wasn't worse."

Finn only had a scrape or two, flakes from the shattered spiked club brushing his arms. He crouched beside Jake, his calm blue eyes softening.

Jake caught the look and smirked. "What's that face for, huh? You surprised your big bro can take a beating?"

Finn rolled his eyes, smiling faintly. Still the same Jake. Just like the show.

He thought back—back to being a baby in this strange world, to begging Joshua to train him harder than a child should ever be trained. Tough love, Jake called it—the three of them already feel Joshua though love. Joshua's way of parenting wasn't gentle, but it had shaped them both.

(Author:as we all know, normal logic ain't work at ooo)

Jake chuckled, leaning against his little brother. "Still, Finn—you really laid into that guy with his own club. Guess Dad's training worked out, huh? You could lifted more heavy thing now bro."

Finn shrugged, dusting off his oversized shirt. "Meh. You know how Dad is. Tough love...Not like Mom hehehe."

They shared a laugh, the kind that pushed away the pain of the battlefield. Around them, candy people rebuilt, reunited, and rejoiced. But Bubblegum's sharp eyes lingered on the two figures—one a stretchable yellow dog with green mowhak, the other a five-year-old human with the stare of someone far older—Unlikely heroes, but heroes all the same.

---

The laughter between the brothers faded as a soft voice approached. Princess Bubblegum herself stepped carefully toward them, her gown torn, her magenta hair tangled, and her body wrapped in fresh bandages. A blanket draped around her shoulders gave her some dignity after the brutal ordeal, but her composure and regal bearing still shone through the exhaustion.

"Greetings, brave heroes who saved me and my kingdom," she said, bowing her head.

Jake's eyes widened, and Finn straightened at once. Neither expected a princess to bow to them.

"Oh—your highness, Princess Bubblegum—please, don't bow to us!" Jake blurted, scratching the back of his head, suddenly awkward. His tail even wagged nervously, betraying his shyness.

Finn shook his head quickly. "Yeah, we were just… passing by. We saw smoke and… well, we couldn't just ignore it."

Bubblegum's lips curved into the faintest smile, though her injuries tugged at her expression. "Passing by, yet willing to risk your lives for strangers… That is the mark of true heroes." Her words carried sincerity, a quiet weight that made both of them stand a little taller.

Her gaze lingered on Finn. For a moment, she seemed puzzled by the boy's eyes—so calm, so steady, as if they belonged to someone far older than five.

Jake chuckled, rubbing his neck. "Well, y'know, can't just let a candy kingdom burn down. Plus… Finn here's got this thing about helping people."

Finn gave a sheepish grin. "Yeah… guess it's my deal."

(Though deep down, he knew it was more than that. He had dreamed of being a hero since his past life—this was his chance to live it out, for real.)

Medics fussed over Bubblegum, adjusting her bandages, but she gently waved them off and stepped closer to the brothers.

"You may not realize it now," she said softly, "but saving me tonight means more than you know. The Candy Kingdom owes you both a great debt."

Her eyes warmed. "May I know the names of the heroes who stand before me?"

Jake straightened, puffing out his chest with a grin. "The name's Jacob—Jake the Dog, Sr… but, uh, you can just call me Jake, your majesty." He gave a small bow, his green mohawk bobbing.

"Jake…" Bubblegum repeated, tilting her head. "Do you… have any relation to Joshua and Margaret? The well-known yellow dog investigators?"

Jake's smile widened. "Yep! Those are our parents."

Her brow furrowed. "'Our parents,' you said?" Her gaze shifted toward the boy beside him.

Jake draped a big stretchy arm around Finn, pulling him into a playful side hug while ruffling his blond hair with his knuckles. "That's right! Me and Finn here—plus our other brother, Jermaine. He's not with us right now, though."

"Jake! C'mon, cut it out!" Finn wriggled free, his cheeks puffing in mock annoyance. He turned to Bubblegum with a small, polite smile. "And, uh… my name's Finn."

The princess leaned closer, lowering herself until her eyes were level with the boy's. Her gaze sharpened, as though she were trying to decode a mystery.

"Finn…" she murmured, almost to herself. Her eyes scanned him—the floppy bear-ear hat, small brush at his cheek—yet smooth, the calm, steady light in his gaze that didn't belong to an ordinary child. "How very… unusual."she whisper under her breathe.

(Author:....,called FBI)

Finn blinked, feeling her stare cut into him like a scalpel. "…Uh… Princess?" he asked, voice steady even though inside he felt like he was on display.

Bubblegum's eyes widened, realizing how odd she must have looked. "Oh! Glob—I'm so sorry! Forgive me, that was terribly rude." A faint blush spread across her pink cheeks as she turned her face away, embarrassed. For someone normally so composed, it was a rare crack in her armor.

Finn gave her a warm grin, tilting his head. "It's okay, Princess Bubblegum. Really." His tone was innocent, but under the hat, his own cheeks warmed.

"Dang… she's even prettier than in the cartoon. No wonder the original Finn went crazy for her. And now she looks more human than candy—this is kinda dangerous. But… eh, it's fine. She's into girls anyway… right?"

Jake's grin widened like he'd just caught something juicy. His tail wagged. "Heheh, buddy, looks like the Princess has her eyes on you." He gave Finn a playful nudge with his elbow.

"Jake…" Finn muttered, rolling his eyes. The heat in his face only deepened.

Bubblegum raised both hands quickly. "No, no! Please don't misunderstand. I didn't mean to be—well—forward. It's just…" She hesitated, her words uncertain, her face still dark pink. "You're… unlike anyone I've ever met in Ooo."

(Author:falls alert...falls alert...i almost called FBI)

"I get that a lot," Finn said lightly, flashing her a warm, boyish smile.

Jake snickered. "Yeah, Princess, see—my little bro Finn here? He's adopted." He ruffled Finn's hair again with a proud grin. "Mom and Dad found him in the woods one day. Picked him right up and raised him as one of us."

Finn chuckled. "Yep. That's how I ended up with a dog family."

"I see…" Bubblegum's tone softened, but her eyes hadn't left Finn for a second.

Jake leaned back casually, adding, "You're probably wondering what he is. Well, Pop and Mom told us what finn is,they said Finn's a human. I didn't really know what that meant when they told me and Jermaine… but who cares? We love him. That's all that matters."

Finn just shrugged with a smile, used to the story by now.

But Bubblegum froze. Her pupils dilated, her lips parted slightly, and the silence stretched. Her mind raced faster than her words.

"A… a human?!" she finally gasped. Her voice cracked with shock. "An actual, living human being!"

Her eyes locked onto Finn, wide with awe, disbelief, and something else that neither boy could quite place.

------------------------------

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM POV:

Humans.

Creatures who once walked this world with power and brilliance unmatched. Even here in Ooo, their legacy lingers like ghosts—ruins scattered across the land, machines half-buried in sand, inventions that even my mind cannot fully comprehend.

They were… complex. Fragile, yes, but brilliant. Their sciences, their tools, their technology—it was far beyond what most kingdoms in Ooo could even dream of. And then, as suddenly as they thrived, they vanished.

No more humans. Only their bones, their stories, and the wreckage of their greatness.

Since the day I left the Mother Gum with my brother Neddy—845 years ago, when I was but a small gumdrop with curious eyes adventure around the ooo until I know them—I've searched for their traces.

(Author:i believe this mf is more old then that)

On my travels as a young girl, I found their books, their lectures frozen on screens, their machines rusting but not broken. I collected, studied, and learned. The more I uncovered, the more I admired them.

But I never imagined this.

That the boy who had just risked his tiny life to save me—a child barely five years old—would be one of them. A human, the last of his kind, if his brother's words were true.

"I'm human. Probably the last one? I don't know much about my kin," the boy said, almost carelessly. His smile was innocent, but the weight of his words pressed into me like stone. The last of his kind… Such a burden, and he didn't even seem to realize it.

"Oh, poor boy…" I thought, my chest aching.

Aloud, I managed, "I see…" My voice was soft as I studied him—this small human who had faced down horrors twice his size without flinching, who fought not for glory, but simply because he wanted to help. His blue eyes shone with a strength I hadn't seen in any kind creatures In ooo beside Billy.

"Joshua and Margaret really raised two great heroes," I told them, forcing my voice steady. "They must be so proud of you both."

But instead of joy, I caught a flicker of something in their expressions. My stomach dropped.

"Heheh… yeah," Jake said, his grin a little too forced. "If they were still here, they'd be proud."

I froze. "Pardon… what do you mean, if they were still here?" I asked carefully, my voice tightening with unease.

Jake's smile softened into something sadder. "Well, Princess… the truth is, our parents passed away a couple months ago."

The words struck harder than any blade. I turned to look at Finn—this child, this last human—and saw no tears. Only that same bright smile, steady and strong, even with the weight of loss pressing on his tiny shoulders—What strength… what unimaginable strength, to lose not just one family, but two… and still shine so brightly.

I felt a lump in my throat, heavier than I could admit.

-------------------------

The air grew heavy after Jake revealed the truth of their parents' passing. Princess Bubblegum's gaze lingered on Finn—on the boy who was not only a child hero, but perhaps the last of his kind. Her expression was difficult to read, equal parts wonder and sorrow.

Finn, of course, knew he wasn't truly the last human. But that was a story for another day.

The silence eased when Bubblegum straightened her posture, her royal poise returning. "You both have done more than I could ever repay," she said softly. "The Candy Kingdom will forever be in your debt. Please, allow me to offer you food, shelter, anything you need. You are welcome here."

Her smile was warm, but beneath it she meant every word—she intended to keep this promise.

Jake scratched his head, his usual laid-back grin sliding back onto his face. "Heh, that's real kind, Princess. But I'm sorry—we can't stay here long."

"Yeah," Finn added from his brother's side. "Everything's under control now. You've got your guards, your people, your castle… you'll be busy fixing everything up. We'd just be in the way."

With a stretch and a shimmer, Jake grew larger, letting Finn hop onto his back. The bandages tugged under his yellow fur as he adjusted, but he didn't complain.

"Where will you go?" Bubblegum asked, her voice gentle but edged with concern.

"Well…" Jake chuckled, "we're kinda looking for a new house, y'know? After leaving our parents' old place, me and the little guy here gotta find a base. Somewhere to crash when we're not adventuring." princess bubblegum looked puzzle."adventure?"she said look confused at them."yeah, that what this little guy dream is —be adventure just like our parents."jake sad, moving his eyes toward finn behind his back

Finn leaned forward on Jake's back, his eyes gleaming. "And… I wanna be a hero, too! For real after this! So, we're gonna keep training and adventuring until i can be one. You coming Jake?"

Jake's smile widened with pride. "That's right. Adventure, heroics… all that good stuff,I'm gonna follow you buddy."

Bubblegum pressed a hand over her chest. Their refusal stung, though she respected it. "I see… Then at least know this: Finn the Human, Jake the Dog—you are always welcome here. The gates of the Candy Kingdom will open for you, whenever you wish."

The brothers exchanged a look, then bowed together. "That'd be an honor, Princess," Jake said warmly.

Finn grinned and waved with his tiny hand, still playing the part of the five-year-old. "Bye, Princess Bubblegum!"

With that, the two turned and walked into the green grasslands once more, side by side, searching for their new home.

---

The two brothers wandered across the vast, endless grasslands, the wind brushing against their faces. Their first heroic deed—saving the Candy Kingdom—was already behind them, but the adventure of their lives was only just beginning.

They searched, eyes scanning the horizon. What they wanted was simple, yet important: a place to call home.

Then—

"Jake! Jake! Look over there!" Finn tugged at his brother's back, pointing ahead.

Jake squinted, tail wagging. In the distance stood a massive tree, its branches draping down like a curtain of green hair. A weeping willow… but taller, wider, older than any they had ever seen.

"Whoa-hoh… that's one big tree! Let's check it out!" Jake bounded forward, his four paws pounding the grass as Finn held on tight.

The closer they got, the clearer it became—it wasn't just a tree. It was a tree house. A massive fort, its iy stood tall with visible window, bridges, and balconies. Flags waved lazily from its canopies. Wooden windows jutted out at odd angles. A shack sat snug at the base, with a path curling around the roots.

"Finn!!" Jake gasped, eyes wide with awe. "Dude… it's a tree house! Just like the one you imagined!"

Finn's mouth fell open, playing his role with wide-eyed wonder. "No way… I didn't think something like this could be real!" (Of course, deep inside, he already knew. But he had to keep the act up.)

"Gaaaaasp!" Jake practically sang. "It's even got a pond in front of it, man! Just like I imagined! This is… this is perfect!"

They rushed inside. The place was big—the trunk hollowed and crafted into rooms, full of potential—a living room, bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, even a chicken coop. Treasure rooms, storage caves, an attic. Narrow wooden bridges connected the different canopies, each space echoing with possibility.

Jake spun in a circle, grinning ear to ear. "This place is awesome! It's got everything!"

Finn laughed, raising his arms. "Yeah! We—"

Before he could finish, Jake grabbed him in a bear hug. "Live here, of course, dude! This place has everything we dreamed of!"

The two spun and danced in circles, laughter echoing through the hollow wood. For Jake, it was joy and discovery. For Finn—our MC—it was a moment he had long foreseen. But even knowing, he couldn't help smiling, because for Jake this is real something.

Their new home—the beginning of their life

Of course, there was still work to do. They'd have to move all their belongings from their parents' house, set things up, and make it truly theirs. But for now, the Tree House stood tall, waiting to become the heart of their adventures.
