Chapter 72: Someone's Daughter
"Hhhhm…I knew she wouldn't take long to come."
Her door opened and Victoria closed her eyes.
"Victoria?" Harriet's voice echoed softly at first, cautious. "Your father sent for-"
Her words cut off with a loud gasp when her eyes landed on the floor.
Ricardo was sprawled at her feet…his lips looked pale, and his skin was drained of color.
Harriet's scream tore through the air. She rushed forward, kneeling beside him, shaking his shoulders desperately. "My dear! My lord, wake up! Please-wake up!"
But Ricardo didn't move. His eyes stared blankly, and the truth struck Harriet like a blade.
She turned to face her daughter. "Victoria…what have you done?"
Victoria didn't care about the drama her mother was causing. She kept brushing her hair, calm as the sea on a windless day. "Don't raise your voice in my chambers, mother."
