Chapter 52: The King's Story
Nadeira thought she was done with the council chamber.
She wanted nothing more than to lock herself in her room and hide from the weird creepiness that Levius's smug smile left behind.
But before she could reach the hall doors, a guard stepped in front of her.
"The king asks to see you. Alone."
Her heart thudded louder than Nadeira wanted it to beat.
She expected another punishment, maybe a cruel lecture. Still, she followed...
The guard led her down a quieter passage where few dared to go.
At the end, large and seemingly heavy doors opened into a smaller chamber. The king was sitting there, no crown on his head, no scepter in hand.
It looked like he was waiting for her, but weirdly without any power in his hands.
Maybe he wanted to show Nadeira that she could trust him this way.
Who knew, she had no other choice but to obey him with a crown or without it.
He gestured to the chair opposite him. "Sit, Nadeira."
