Chapter 44: The Mistake
Nadeira drifted into sleep, but it wasn't peaceful.
She saw her mother.
A woman standing in the fog, her face looked really gentle but tired, and she was whispering through the waves.
"My daughter," the woman said. "You are walking a dangerous path. The sea pulls at you. The land rejects you. But you must find the truth, no matter how painful it is."
Nadeira tried to step closer. "Mother… Why did you leave me? Why am I bound to all this?"
Her mother's lips trembled, but no answers came. She raised her hand, pointing somewhere behind Nadeira.
When Nadeira turned, the fog cleared, and in its place was her father.
Duke Ricardo…
He looked at her with cold, evil eyes, the same eyes he always used when he scolded her as a child.
Her mother hushed one last time before fading away. "Ask him. Ask him why."
Nadeira woke up with her heart pounding. She sat up in bed, gripped the sheets.
'Why does it feel so real? Why does it feel like she truly spoke to me?'
