Chapter 45: The Old House
Nadeira woke up early. She could still hear her father's words in her head, coming into her chest like a dagger.
He had called her a mistake. He had admitted he tried to poison Barbara. But even worse, he refused to explain what her mother meant in her dream.
She needed answers.
So when she heard that the king was taking audiences that morning, she went directly to him.
"Your Majesty," Nadeira bowed as she stood before him. "I ask your permission to leave the castle today."
The king raised his brow. "And why should I allow you to wander freely, when you have already ignored my council once before?"
Nadeira bowed her head again but spoke with firmness. "Because if I remain trapped here, I will not find the truth you demand from me. Let me go to town. I will return. You have my word."
