Chapter 148 - King Odin Stunned: Silly Son Thor Can Foresee the Future?

It must be said: "Where there's a will, there's a way" is truly a timeless truth.

Ever since it was confirmed that S.H.I.E.L.D. had indeed been infiltrated by Hydra to the extent described in the diary—so deeply that it could be renamed the "Hydra Shield"—Nick Fury had been mentally exhausted.

He had been racking his brain for a way to resolve the situation.

For a long time, his mind was on the verge of exploding, yet no effective solution emerged.

The only radical solution the diary hinted at was the extreme measure: completely destroy S.H.I.E.L.D., along with Hydra!

Why?

Because Hydra's infiltration was already beyond repair.

Otherwise, if there were still a glimmer of hope, the "other version" of himself wouldn't have dared to completely destroy S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was Fury's life's work!

If the other self acted so decisively, one could imagine the immense pressure Fury himself was under—it felt like a massive mountain pressing down on him.

Yet, just when all hope seemed lost, a ray of light appeared.

The diary had revealed an even more desperate truth—but paradoxically, it offered Fury hope.

It offered the only perfect method to solve the problem.

It truly felt like divine assistance!

Nick Fury finally felt the heavy stone lifted from his chest, and he relaxed somewhat.

Without hesitation, he immediately began carefully planning the replacement of Alexander Pierce.

Given Pierce's special status, replacing him was actually easier than replacing other Hydra agents.

At Pierce's level, the networks and relationships he managed were simpler than those of ordinary Hydra operatives.

Of course, Fury didn't grow complacent. After meticulous planning, he invested enormous resources, preparing thoroughly for the operation.

By the time all was ready, night was falling.

Fury finally had a moment to breathe.

"Sir, there's something I think you should know."

Just as he reached for a coffee to ease his fatigue, Agent Coulson appeared before him again.

"Speak."

Fury set his coffee aside and sat back, seriously looking at Coulson.

He knew if it weren't important, Coulson wouldn't report personally at this time.

"It's Thor," Coulson said solemnly. "Someone spotted him in the Nevada Mountains."

Thor?

Nevada Mountains?

Fury's mind was instantly clouded with confusion.

Thor's actions were completely unexpected.

By Fury's instinct, Thor should have returned to Asgard—but why was he still on Earth?

And why head to the Nevada Mountains? What could possibly be there?

Fury's brain raced, trying to decipher Thor's logic, but he came up empty.

"Keep an eye on him. Report to me immediately if anything happens."

Fury finally commanded Coulson.

"Yes, sir."

Coulson quickly deployed satellites to scan the Nevada Mountains for Thor.

Soon, they spotted him standing atop a ridge in the southeast Nevada range.

"Thor, what are you doing?"

Coulson watched via satellite, puzzled.

But given Thor's status, he dared not relax, keeping his eyes fixed without blinking.

Thor simply stood there, motionless.

What Coulson didn't know was that Thor was communicating with Heimdall.

A projection of Heimdall stood before Thor—but only he could see it.

"Is this spot ready?" Thor asked, surveying the surroundings.

Heimdall nodded after checking the area. "Absolutely. We have prepared enough dark energy; you can be transported back soon."

"Do it quickly, Heimdall," Thor urged.

Having stayed on Earth for days, Thor was eager to return.

"Stand still," Heimdall instructed, drawing his sword.

Around Thor, he began carving complex symbols.

In moments, a magic circle appeared around Thor.

"Are you ready?" Heimdall asked, sheathing his sword.

"Of course…"

Before Thor could finish, the circle activated.

A blinding light engulfed him entirely.

When the light faded, Thor's figure had vanished.

A moment later, his vision cleared.

Thor realized he was back in Asgard.

He saw familiar faces: his father Odin, mother Frigga, and the loyal Heimdall.

"Welcome back, Thor!" Heimdall greeted with a nod.

"Thor!" Frigga ran forward, hugging her son tightly.

She examined him from head to toe.

"You seem… different."

"Your time in Midgard must have been remarkable," she observed appreciatively.

"Yes, mother, I have experienced many things," Thor replied, reflecting.

His time on Midgard was like a dream—but short though it was, it held great significance for him.

"I didn't expect it would take over a month for you to lift your hammer," Odin said, partially proud, partially assuming his stern father role.

"Father, I know I disappointed you. I will apologize later," Thor said solemnly.

"But now, I wish to know if Asgard is well."

Thor immediately sensed something. "Where is Loki? Why isn't he here?"

A bad feeling gnawed at him.

During his stay on Midgard, Thor had learned some things from Heimdall:

The Bifrost had been destroyed, preventing normal travel; only dark energy could transport.

But Heimdall hadn't disclosed why the bridge broke or the other events that had unfolded.

Thor had no knowledge of the "incident" between Odin and Loki.

Yet, reading the diary, he had begun to piece things together, hence his concern.

At the mention of Loki, both Odin and Frigga's expressions darkened, confirming Thor's apprehension.

"What happened?"

"Where is Loki?" Thor pressed, incredulous.

"Could he have fallen into the Cosmic Abyss?"

He hadn't returned to Asgard, nor fought Loki—yet the Bifrost was broken.

Odin glanced at Heimdall, suspecting him of leaking information.

He waved Heimdall away: "Go back. I will speak with Thor alone."

Heimdall obeyed, leaving the three alone.

"While you were away, much happened in Asgard," Odin said, sharing a meaningful glance with Frigga.

They recounted all the tragic events that occurred after Thor was exiled.

Thor: "…"

He was dumbfounded. Even without returning to Asgard, Loki's fate remained the same—he had fallen into the Cosmic Abyss.

And the Bifrost was destroyed.

Was this Loki's destiny?

Would he encounter the Purple Sweet Potato and be deceived into invading Midgard as the diary predicted?

Thor thought it very likely.

The diary had proven accurate before.

Loki's trajectory, though slightly offset, still followed the diary's outline.

Events would unfold as foreseen.

"Father, mother, don't be too upset. Loki is likely still alive!" Thor reassured them.

"I know it's hard to accept," Frigga said, trying to comfort him.

"No, mother. I am confident Loki is alive!" Thor insisted.

Odin and Frigga were stunned.

Thor didn't look distraught—he looked like he knew something.

"I watched Loki fall into the Cosmic Abyss," Odin said, serious. "How can you be so certain if you weren't there?"

Father, mother, Thor said, "During my time in Midgard, I experienced… things akin to a dream."

"I obtained an item of magical power."

"This item allowed me to know certain things about the future—but I couldn't reveal it. I tried; I couldn't."

Thor explained the diary events vaguely to Odin and Frigga.

???

Odin and Frigga exchanged a confused glance.

Thor had apparently obtained an item on Midgard that could foresee the future?

It was imbued with magic, forbidding him from revealing it?

If Thor couldn't tell, how could they believe him?

It wasn't distrust—merely skepticism due to lack of proof.

Also, their son's intelligence… well, he was a bit naive at times.

"Ah, so it's that 'thing' that told you Loki is alive?" Odin asked, sternly.

"Wait a minute," Frigga recalled. "You had Fandral and the others warn of danger in Asgard—that too came from this item?"

"Yes," Thor nodded. "I know it sounds impossible, but many events revealed by it have come true, including Loki's schemes and his fall into the Cosmic Abyss."

Odin and Frigga were genuinely astonished.

At their level, they knew exactly how rare the ability to foresee the future was.

Even the universe's mightiest rarely could.

Only a few, using special means, could glimpse the future.

As Thor described, casually predicting the future was unheard of—perhaps only those from Agamotto's lineage millions of years ago could manage it.

"What else did it say, besides Loki?" Odin asked.

"After falling into the Cosmic Abyss, Loki will encounter someone called the Purple Sweet Potato and be deceived into invading Midgard."

"And the Purple Sweet Potato, like you, Father, will collect the Infinity Stones. Father, what are the Infinity Stones?"

"And Father, tell me about your prehistoric Avengers battles," Thor said, asking eagerly.

Thor recounted much to Odin in one breath.

Odin's expression grew solemn.

Infinity Stones… prehistoric Avengers… he had never told anyone!

So Thor's words were true—he really could foresee the future.
