After making sure no one was following, Nick Fury quietly arrived at the secret base where Thor was stationed—having taken nearly forty minutes to get there without drawing attention.
He soon met with Thor and Black Widow.
Why wasn't Captain America present?
It wasn't that Fury didn't trust him, or considered him an outsider.
It was simply because Captain America wasn't a diary-holder.
If Steve Rogers were present, certain conversations couldn't be discussed openly.
"I wonder when Rogers will get the diary," Natasha muttered, feeling awkward about always having to sneak around Steve.
Especially since the diary contained spoilers of vital information—S.H.I.E.L.D. had to act.
Captain America, one of the few people Fury trusted, was also one of the "Big Three" as designated by the diary. Many operations couldn't bypass him.
Always hiding things wasn't a solution.
According to Tony Stark's theory, diary holders were people capable of shaping the future of the world—they were the main characters of this world.
And Captain America was undoubtedly the main character among the main characters.
Everyone eagerly awaited the day Steve would obtain the diary.
Of course, that was limited to hope.
Tony's theory seemed plausible, but no one could guarantee it.
Whether Captain America would actually get the diary—no one knew.
"That's not for us to decide," Fury said, shrugging, refusing to waste time on such meaningless speculation. He turned his eye toward Thor. "Thor, what do you know about the Celestials?"
Black Widow shook her head slightly.
Before Fury arrived, she had already discussed the matter with Thor—but the answers weren't promising.
"Even for me, they are a mysterious race," Thor replied.
He repeated to Fury what he had told Natasha earlier: "I know my father fought them long ago, but beyond that, I don't know much more than you."
He waved the diary in his hand. "It's all written here."
"And what about the other alien races or factions mentioned in the diary?" Fury asked, unchanging in expression. "For example, Ego, the Eternals, the Sword Bureau?"
"I know nothing of Ego or the Sword Bureau," Thor admitted.
But his tone brightened as he spoke of the Eternals: "However, the Eternals are a group of strong and reliable allies."
Fury felt a spark of relief. Finally, this usually clueless Thor had delivered something useful.
"Can you tell me more about the Eternals?" Fury asked, staring Thor down.
Thor nodded, then launched into the story: "You know, Asgard once went to war with Jotunheim. I was young but saw the brutality of battle alongside my father. That's when I met the Eternals—they allied with my father to defeat the Frost Giants. Ah, and that war took place on Midgard."
Earth? Fury and Natasha were both shocked. They had never imagined Asgard and Jotunheim would wage war on Earth.
How could the mortal world withstand the wrath of two divine realms?
Fury pressed for more details about the battle, but Thor was too young to remember clearly. His recollection of the Eternals was equally vague.
Thor's recounting was mostly about Odin's bravery and the prowess of "Big Thor," with occasional mentions of the Eternals. Still, it provided enough of a general impression: they were powerful beings, each possessing unique abilities.
One detail remained vivid: "There was a big guy, bigger than me. His weapon—his fists. Nothing his fists hit could withstand. And another, with a strange accent, could fire powerful energy beams just by pointing."
Though the details were fuzzy, Fury at least gained a rough understanding of the Eternals as potential allies.
After discussing the Eternals, Fury moved on to other diary-related spoilers, and eventually, the conversation shifted to Thor's hammer.
"I feel ready," Thor said confidently.
Unlike previous attempts, this time he had a genuine, heartfelt feeling. He understood why Odin had exiled him.
After all these days on Earth, Thor had truly grown. His time with Captain America, along with insights from Black Widow and the diary's revelations, had forged him into someone prepared to reclaim his power.
He approached Mjolnir without hesitation.
This time, there was no struggle. The moment his hand touched the hammer, a smile spread across Thor's face.
He felt Mjolnir again.
"Mjolnir, long time no see," Thor said, as if greeting an old friend, lifting the hammer effortlessly.
"Ha! I knew it!" Thor laughed, filled with joy.
Finally, after all these days on Midgard, he had reclaimed his hammer.
Crack! Lightning surged from Mjolnir. Armor fragments exploded outward, colliding and assembling into a dazzling, powerful suit.
After so long as a mortal on Earth, Thor was finally back in full glory.
"Is this the real you?" Captain America remarked, nodding in approval.
"Rogers, I thank you, my friend, sincerely," Thor said.
"You're welcome. I didn't know what I was supposed to do either," Steve replied.
Thor then thanked Fury and Natasha as well, before departing. He had pressing matters—what Odin was doing, the state of Jotunheim, Loki… he needed to know it all.
Fury and Natasha understood and said nothing to try to keep him.
"Come back anytime," Natasha said, smiling flirtatiously.
"This is our first encounter, but not the last," Fury added meaningfully.
Thor nodded, lifting Mjolnir, and strode away.
Fury then dismissed Natasha and Captain America, who had been stationed at the base only to assist in Thor's guidance.
But Captain America required no special arrangements—Fury merely helped him adapt to the modern world.
Natasha, however, had a new mission: cooperate fully with Tony Stark to secretly investigate Alexander Pierce.
Tony's tech, aided by J.A.R.V.I.S., could uncover anything online. Natasha provided the ground support.
The efficiency of the combined effort was astounding.
Unlike previous investigations, this one pre-set a result and verified it through counter-evidence.
By the third day, Tony had the results.
Irrefutable evidence showed Pierce was a Hydra operative. Natasha delivered the proof to Fury.
Fury's expression hardened.
"Pierce, you've made the wrong choice," he said, his eye flashing.
How to handle Pierce was simple for Fury. He didn't need to change his strategy.
All he had to do was let the Skrulls replace Pierce.
In that moment, Hydra would fall entirely under Fury's control.
A headache solved, simply by becoming the leader of Hydra!
