Brooklyn, Groot Town.
Inside a completely ordinary supermarket.
Rrrr… rrrr…The shopping cart wheels squeaked against the floor.
Captain America, now white-haired, wrinkled, and covered with age spots, looked indistinguishable from any ordinary elderly man as he pushed his cart along the aisles.
Well… not entirely indistinguishable.
Most men of his age would be long past the point of stamina that Cap still displayed. Walking through half a supermarket without breaking a sweat? Impossible for a normal elder.
But he was a super soldier.
Even in his current frail-looking state, a few fully grown men wouldn't dare approach him if things went wrong.
"Ah, here it is!"
His gaze lingered on a shelf, and without realizing it, he stopped. Picking up a bottle of ketchup, he examined it carefully and nodded slightly.
"Yes, this is the one."
This was Peggy's favorite flavor.
Captain America himself found it rather ordinary, even a bit nauseating after decades, but if Peggy liked it, that was enough.
Without hesitation, he placed the bottle into his shopping cart.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, Cap's movement paused slightly, as if sensing something. He turned his head subtly—and his pupils constricted.
Not far away, on the opposite end of the aisle, a man in a black trench coat and mask was casually picking out items.
Nick Fury?!
How could it be him?
Captain America's alertness spiked as he rapidly analyzed the situation. Scanning the surroundings, he found no signs of ambush. The people passing by were normal civilians, not undercover agents.
A sigh of relief escaped him—but Cap still wouldn't let his guard down. After all, it was Nick Fury.
Since being awakened after seventy years of slumber, Cap had served under Fury for a long time. He knew exactly what Fury was capable of, and the man never appeared without reason.
His first thought: Fury came for him.
After all, Fury was here, right in front of him! Could it really be a coincidence?
Was Fury aware of his true identity?
A subtle unease settled in Cap's chest. Yet after careful thought, he realized he hadn't revealed any obvious clues.
"Forget it!"
Though still puzzled, Captain America decided not to dwell on it.
Time to leave this place of trouble.
The farther from Fury, the better.
Rrrr… rrrr…The cart wheels squeaked again as Cap pushed forward naturally, moving as if he had finished shopping and was about to exit.
"Just leaving like that?""Not even a hello?""I thought we were friends, you know…"
Fury's voice echoed behind him, casual yet deliberate.
Cap furrowed his brows. Fury had indeed come for him—and clearly knew who he really was.
How did he find out? Where was the leak?
"Excuse me, are you talking to me?" Cap said, turning slowly with a puzzled expression.
His acting was flawless—any observer, even Fury, wouldn't detect a flaw.
But Fury wasn't bluffing. He had evidence.
"Rogers, I know this is sudden, and I understand you don't want to see me right now. But I promise, I won't interfere with your life."
"I only need a moment of your time. After that, I won't appear again."
Fury spoke plainly, with no games.
Cap's expression stiffened briefly, then returned to normal. He said, "You've got the wrong person," and pushed his cart forward.
Fury's calm voice followed, "Rogers, we both know I wouldn't come without certainty.""This is meaningless. If you're unprepared, I can come back next time—your choice."
Cap's steps slowed. Fury's certainty unnerved him. He had been marked—and once Fury had eyes on him, his peace would be disturbed until Fury's purpose was fulfilled.
"You can continue to deny it, Rogers, but I have your DNA report. Want to see it?"
Cap glanced at the report but didn't take it. He also stopped denying.
"Why are you here, Nick?" he asked, seriously, acknowledging his identity.
"Let's go somewhere private," Fury suggested.
"No, right here will do," Cap refused firmly. He was here to be with Peggy Carter, nothing more.
Fury leaned in, earnest. "Captain, I know what you've been through. I need your advice. Only you can give it."
"Call me Harrison. There's no Captain here," he added.
"I'm just an old man; I have nothing to offer," Cap said modestly.
"No. You do. You're the only one who can advise me."
Fury stepped closer, solemn. "This isn't a pretense. I'm not asking for myself, but for the world. Chitauri invasions, Ultron's threat, the elimination of half the universe—billions on Earth. After all this, can you remain indifferent?"
Cap froze. Fury knew the future?
Even Doctor Strange, with the Time Stone, hadn't seen it all.
The weight of the statement made Cap serious. He replied calmly, "My advice: do not attempt to manipulate time—it will manipulate you."
The Avengers' ultimate battle, Tony Stark's death, was the price of tampering with time.
"Goodbye… and forever!"
Cap quickened his pace, leaving Fury behind.
Fury shook his head, realizing Cap would give nothing. With someone else, a thousand methods could be employed to extract information. But this was Steve Rogers. Even Fury had limits.
Returning to his office, Fury closed the door, shed his coat, poured coffee, and pulled out his diary.
Updates were erratic, so checking frequently had become habit.
Ah! An update!
New content in the diary caught Tony Stark's attention immediately.
I never expected it… after being reborn in this universe, today is the first time I realized Mr. Fantastic exists!
He's still an ordinary man, not yet part of the Fantastic Four, even slightly down on his luck…
Apparently some research lacked funding, leaving me restless…
Regardless, he is the smartest man on Earth—smarter than Tony Stark.
Not just on Earth—he ranks high across the galaxy.
Besides Rocket Raccoon, few can rival Mr. Fantastic.
Tony Stark's attention was fully captured.
This man, Mr. Fantastic, apparently would join another superhero group—the Fantastic Four.
Tony smirked inwardly. Yet soon, he frowned.
This guy thinks Mr. Fantastic is smarter than me?
Ridiculous!
