Under Loki's silent watch…
Laufey, King of the Frost Giants—and also Loki's biological father—swaggered arrogantly toward Odin, clutching a dagger in his hand.
No one stopped him.
And Odin?Still trapped in his deep Odin Sleep, lying there silently, completely defenseless.
"They say even in this state, you can still see and hear," Laufey said coldly.
"I hope that's true. Because that way, you'll know—it was Laufey who killed you."
With a cruel grin, Laufey pried open one of Odin's eyes and, savoring his own triumph, raised the dagger high—
—and stabbed downward with all his might.
He was going to end the All-Father's life in one blow!
Szzzt! But just as the blade was about to fall, a blazing blast of energy shot out from the side, slamming into Laufey and throwing him to the ground.
Loki appeared, holding the Gungnir—the Eternal Spear—his presence cold and commanding.
It was, undeniably, a dramatic entrance.
"And you—shall die by the hand of Odin's son!"
Szzzt!Loki flicked his wrist, and the Eternal Spear struck again, piercing the already-wounded Laufey.
The poor Frost Giant King was betrayed and slain by his own son—utterly obliterated.
Not a metaphor, but a fact.
Laufey was reduced to dust—vanished completely from existence.
"Loki!"
Frigga, having just gotten back to her feet, rushed to his side in shock and relief. "You saved your father!"
Seeing her expression—relieved and joyful—Loki's heart surged with pride.
He was finally going to win back his parents' love, step by step.
"Mother, I swear—they'll all pay for what they've done!" Loki vowed solemnly.
"Loki, it's enough that your father is safe."
Frigga assumed her son was just venting his anger; after all, the Frost Giants weren't so easily dealt with—especially now, when Asgard was in chaos.
She never imagined her son had already prepared for everything.
"Mother, leave it all to me," Loki said confidently. "Take care of Father."
Leaving those words behind, he turned and strode away with the Eternal Spear in hand—radiating pride and determination.
"It's almost time," he murmured. "Father, just a little longer—and I'll succeed."
Inside the Bifrost Control Chamber, Loki stood before the console, his eyes gleaming with fervor.
Everything was proceeding perfectly—just as he had planned.
All the groundwork was complete. Now, all he had to do was move his hands slightly, and he could wipe Jotunheim from existence—
—achieving a feat even Thor could never match!
A glorious future awaited him.
Filled with excitement, Loki hesitated no longer. He drove the long sword he had prepared into the control core.
Vmmm! The Bifrost activated instantly, a blinding beam of light erupting outward—
—and in seconds, it spanned galaxies, striking Jotunheim squarely.
BOOM!The whole of Jotunheim trembled violently.
Where the rainbow beam hit, the land split apart, the ground crumbling, everything obliterated.
That was the Bifrost's other function—planetary annihilation.
Yes, besides serving as a teleportation bridge, the Bifrost was also an immensely powerful weapon—akin to a cosmic nuclear cannon.
Destroying an entire planet was child's play.
"Heh…"
Watching the Bifrost's full power unleashed, energy flaring in dazzling waves, Loki couldn't help but smile radiantly.
He could already see it: Odin's praise, Asgard's worship, the people bowing to him in admiration.
"Loki, what have you done?"
Suddenly, a furious and astonished voice rang out beside him, shattering his reverie.
Loki froze and turned around instinctively—his expression instantly shifting to shock. "Father? You're awake?"
So much for perfect planning—he hadn't anticipated this!
He had accounted for everything, removed every obstacle—except one. Odin waking up at the worst possible time.
Odin didn't bother responding. The All-Father's single eye swept over the control room, his face darkening.
"You're trying to destroy Jotunheim?"
His voice was grave, his presence overwhelming.
"Father, please—just wait a moment longer," Loki said eagerly. "I can promise you—Jotunheim will soon be nothing but ruins.
"This problem that's plagued you for so long—it'll be gone for good.
"You'll never have to worry again. Neither will Asgard!"
Since he'd been found out, there was no point hiding it. Loki spoke quickly, seeking approval.
But instead of praise, he got only fury.
"Destroy Jotunheim? Do you even understand what you're saying?!"
"Stop this, now!"
Odin's voice thundered through the chamber, his expression pure rage.
If Odin had ever wanted to destroy Jotunheim, he could have done it long ago—without waiting for Loki's meddling.
War was one thing. But annihilating one of the Nine Realms entirely? That was unthinkable.
"Stop?"
Loki was stunned—this wasn't how it was supposed to go! "Why, Father? I can end this once and for all! I can do it!"
"Stop—immediately!"
"We cannot destroy Jotunheim! Stop it, now!"
Odin's tone grew harsher by the second.
"Why, Father? Why can't we? I did this for you—for Asgard!" Loki's voice rose, his face twisted in hurt confusion.
"Silence! Have you forgotten all I've taught you?"
"I scolded Thor for his vanity and cruelty—but you're worse than him!"
"You've disappointed me just as much as he has!"
"No—you're worse than Thor!"
"Even he wouldn't do something this foolish!"
"Stand aside!"
Odin's scolding was like a hammer blow, leaving Loki speechless.
Then, without another word, Odin strode to the console, trying to shut down the Bifrost.
But it was too late.
Whatever Loki had done to the system, the Bifrost couldn't be stopped.
The boy had inherited Frigga's magical talent—but sadly, not her restraint.
Odin failed to notice that Loki's face had gone pale with despair.
He had done all this—for Odin. He'd gone so far—and still, all he received was rejection.
He was… "not as good as Thor."
A bitter laugh escaped his lips.
Of course, Father. I was a fool. No matter what I do, I'll never be your true son.
Thor is—and always will be.
"I don't care what you've done—shut it down!" Odin roared again.
"It's useless, Father. Until Jotunheim is completely destroyed, it can't be stopped. No one can stop it—not even you."
Loki's smile turned hollow, hopeless.
"When this is over, Loki, we'll have a long talk," Odin said grimly, turning away to focus on stopping the weapon.
But he quickly realized there was only one way to end it—
—to destroy the Bifrost itself.
By force.
No other option remained.
Without hesitation, Odin reached out—and the Eternal Spear flew from Loki's hands into his own.
Then, striding onto the bridge, Odin raised the weapon high.
"Father, what are you doing?"
"No—stop!" Loki shouted, running toward him. He understood Odin's intent immediately.
His heart twisted in anguish.
You don't understand, Father! I did this for you—and you're still going to stop me?
But there was no time left.
Jotunheim was seconds away from obliteration.
Odin couldn't waste another moment worrying about his son's feelings.
With a mighty swing, he drove Gungnir into the bridge beneath him.
BOOM!A shockwave of unimaginable power tore through the chamber, light swallowing everything.
This was the might of the All-Father.
What had taken Thor ages to accomplish, Odin did with a single strike.
When the blinding glow finally faded, the Bifrost lay split in two—shattered.
Before Odin, the rainbow bridge was broken, torn apart.
And Loki—
—as in the original tale—couldn't withstand the immense energy. He was thrown backward, tumbling into the abyss of space.
At the last instant, Odin managed to catch his hand.
Father and son dangled from the broken bridge, swinging in the void.
"Father… I could have done it," Loki said, staring up at him, voice trembling. "I did it for you."
"No, Loki," Odin said—stern even now, his voice heavy.
And with that one word, he shattered the last piece of hope in Loki's heart.
Loki's expression went blank—then filled with despair.
He let go.
And fell—into the endless cosmic abyss.
"No! Loki!"
Odin's heart trembled as he cried out helplessly after his son.
Though Loki wasn't his by blood, Odin had always loved him as his own.
He'd only ever been strict—especially in recent years, knowing his time was short.
He'd wanted his sons to grow strong—to lead.
So why… why had it come to this?
——
Meanwhile, the Avengers on Earth had no idea what was happening in Asgard.
Neither did Thor.
The God of Thunder still sat brooding over Mjolnir, desperate to lift it again—to return home.
He could never have guessed that the Bifrost was now broken, the bridge between worlds severed.
Though Odin still had other means—like dark energy—for travel, they were far less convenient.
"Thor."
Lost in frustration, Thor looked up as Nick Fury approached him.
The director gave a half-smile at the sight of the thunder god sitting dejectedly before his hammer. "Take your time," he said. "There's a saying here on Earth—'haste makes waste.' Ever heard it?"
"Perhaps you're right," Thor admitted after a pause. "I need to think."
Even the densest warrior would, after so many failed attempts, realize brute force alone wasn't enough.
He needed to become worthy.
But what did that truly mean? That was something Thor had yet to understand.
"You've read the journal," Fury continued. "This is only temporary. You'll lift the hammer again soon enough.
"And if you ever want advice, maybe talk to Rogers. I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing his experience."
A cunning suggestion—another way to win the god's favor.
After all, even Rogers himself didn't really know how he'd managed to lift the hammer.
What advice could he possibly give?
"Thank you, but that won't be necessary," Thor replied, shaking his head. "I'll do it myself."
Fury's smile widened. "I believe you will. It's not beyond you."
Then, smoothly changing the subject, he added, "But that's not what I came to discuss."
"What, then?" Thor asked, glancing over.
"The Avengers," Fury said gravely.
Thor already knew—thanks to the journal—that he would one day become one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
And after fighting side by side with them, trust had begun to form.
To Fury, this was the perfect time.
Recruiting a god wasn't something you left for later—especially when that god could return to another realm at any moment.
Better to act now—before he was gone for good.
