Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 Return to Noah's House

Noah helped Ultear prepare a potion based on the results of his examination.

After giving the potion to Ultear to drink, her complexion gradually improved after a short while.

Noah asked gently,

"How are you feeling?"

"I feel much more relaxed and comfortable… the discomfort is fading."

Ulu, watching from the side, was overjoyed.

"Is this the potion taking effect?"

Noah nodded.

"I prescribed medicine to help Ultear heal her injuries. Once she drank it, her body began to recover, so naturally she feels much better now.

Also, during my inspection, I discovered that although the Magic Development Bureau carried out many unpleasant experiments on Ultear, they unintentionally improved her basic physical condition.

So, healing the damage caused by those experiments is also the same as curing part of her illness."

When Ulu heard this, her eyes turned red and she nearly burst into tears. For the first time, she could clearly see hope for curing her daughter.

Ultear was also overjoyed. As long as she could be healed, her mother would no longer have to suffer and work so hard.

Noah examined Ultear again and, confirming that her symptoms were improving, he led them outside.

When Erza and the others saw Noah and the rest return, they immediately crowded around with concern for Ultear's condition.

They had just learned from Gray and the others what had happened to Ulu and Ultear, so they were anxious to hear how things stood now.

"Brother Noah, how is Ultear's health?" Erza rushed to ask. Simon, Gray, and the others behind her all fixed their eyes on Noah.

"Not bad," Noah replied calmly. "With proper care, she'll recover."

Gray and the others let out a collective sigh of relief at his words. Of course they were happy that their master's daughter could still be healed.

Hearing this, Simon and Kagura also shared in Ultear's happiness.

"That's wonderful! That Magic Development Bureau is unforgivable, to treat Ultear like that! Fortunately, Brother Noah saved her," Erza said, patting her flat chest and breathing a sigh of relief.

"Those people… for their own selfishness, they abandoned their humanity and treated others as less than human. Anyone I meet like that, I will never forgive!"

Noah remembered what he had witnessed at the Magic Development Bureau, and his anger flared again. He noticed Erza and the others watching him curiously, clearly wanting to know more.

They only knew that the Bureau had mistreated Ultear and deceived Ulu into thinking her daughter was dead. They didn't yet know the details.

Noah didn't want them to learn these things so soon. Even if the truth had to be told, it should come from Ulu or Ultear, not from him.

So he changed the subject and asked Ulu,

"Ulu, what are you planning next? Ultear's treatment will take time. Do you want to stay with me for now? I have plenty of rooms."

Noah's house stood on the outskirts of Magnolia, close to the forest in the east, where property was cheaper.

The house itself was quite large, with three floors and several rooms on each, more than enough to accommodate everyone here.

"Well… there's no need. We'll go out and rent a place. You've already helped us so much, we can't keep troubling you."

Ulu hesitated at first, but quickly firmed her resolve. She truly felt she owed Noah a great debt and shouldn't trouble him any further.

"You probably don't have much money right now."

Noah looked at Ulu and said calmly:

"You probably don't have much money right now."

Ulu was taken aback.

"How do you know?"

Noah explained:

"You've been searching for a way to cure Ultear's illness for a long time, which means you haven't had many chances to earn money from commissions. On top of that, the treatments themselves must have cost you a fortune.

I also heard from Gildarts that you told him you gave up fighting as a wizard a long time ago and never joined a guild. That must have been after you were told the false news of Ultear's death.

Which means, after Ultear's supposed death, you basically stopped earning money from commissions altogether.

Later on, you focused on training Gray and Lyon. Since that training took place deep in the mountains and forests, it didn't require much money, so your savings were still enough to hold on for a while.

So, in short, you haven't earned money in years. You still have some savings, but not much left."

Ulu stared at him, visibly shaken. From her expression, Noah knew he had guessed right.

With a long sigh, Ulu admitted:

"You're right. My savings are almost gone, and it's true I haven't taken on commissions or earned as a wizard for a long time."

Ultear's eyes widened in worry when she heard that her mother had spent nearly all her money for her sake.

Ulu noticed her daughter's expression and knelt down, gently stroking her head.

"I don't care how much it costs. As long as it can heal Ultear, I'll spend it all."

Hearing this, Ultear burst into tears and threw herself into her mother's arms. Ulu gently patted her back to comfort her.

"Since you don't have much savings left, you can stay at my place for now," Noah suggested. "Once you've earned enough money and want to move out, you can think about it then."

Ulu's eyes softened with gratitude.

"Thank you… truly, thank you for everything."

Noah waved it off.

"It's not really a burden. Actually, I also wanted to ask you something. Living together will make it easier for me to treat Ultear and it'll give me the chance to learn from you as well."

Ulu tilted her head.

"What do you want to know? If I know it, I'll tell you."

"Actually, I wanted to ask about Ice-Make Magic."

Ulu blinked in surprise.

"You want to learn Ice-Make from me? But aren't you a Light Mage?"

"To be precise," Noah clarified, "I don't want to learn Ice-Make itself. I want to learn how to shape. I want to make my light magic capable of shaping, just like you do with ice."

Noah had mastered powerful light spells light bullets, light cannons, even simple light swords but he could never form his magic into lifelike, detailed constructs the way Ice-Make could. What he wanted to learn was the method of shaping.

Besides, he thought, constantly giving without allowing Ulu to return the favor would only make things awkward between them. Mutual exchange was the best foundation.

Ulu's face softened into a smile.

"Of course. But… light and ice are very different. I can't be sure what will work for you. Why don't you come along when I teach Gray and Lyon? If you have questions, you can ask me then."

"That works too," Noah agreed. "There's a snow mountain nearby, isn't there? I remember you always chose snowy peaks for training."

"Yes," Ulu nodded. "Because to control the cold, you must first become one with it. That's why I always select a snow-covered mountain as the place for practice."
