"Hana; so that was the name of Evans's wife."
A few seconds earlier, as Evans walked, he saw Hana trying to formulate a basic light spell. He watched the unstable magic circle form and disappear, but soon became more curious about the young woman's familiar appearance, so he decided to approach.
"Then I bought this book in vain. It's a shame," Hana said with slight disappointment.
"May I?" Evans asked, pointing at the book.
She handed it to him. He took out his golden quill, and she was startled to see that her book was about to be scratched.
Evans couldn't help but laugh and then said, "I'll just jot down some notes; if they aren't useful, I'll buy you the book later."
Evans circled each intermediate magic symbol and assigned a number to each. He then assigned each number the ideal basic magic symbol for entry-level light magic without the enhancement achieved through the book's formula.
"With these symbols I wrote down, you'll be able to strengthen your initial practice of light magic; once you master it, the circle in the book won't give you any problems," Evans said, handing the book back to her.
"Thank you; but what do you want in return?" Hana asked, somewhat concerned.
"A friend already paid me enough; you shouldn't worry," Evans said, turning around to head back toward the Academy's halls.
Evans walked through the halls again, his spirit managing to calm down after that turmoil, but now he had clues, only it wasn't time yet, if he found out more his power would overwhelm him until it destroyed him.
"Four years, I must only grow stronger for four years; I must not forget it, when I am strong enough, I will face the forgotten memories that weigh me down."
He clenched his fists and walked towards the dome at the back of the Academy, where they would take the affinity test.
Near a large dome whose upper part was white with some glass that allowed sunlight to enter the interior that had a radius of 700 meters.
The interior was divided into three sections, on the right the magicians trained, on the left the warriors and in the middle the affinity tests were carried out, and it also had rooms for seclusion, for those who wanted to advance in rank or increase their mana circles.
That day everyone was guided to the middle section, upon entering all the students saw a clear area and a stage at the end. Above the stage on a pedestal was a white sphere and about two meters above the sphere was a thin, rectangular crystal.
On the sides of the cleared area you could see three floors with dozens of rooms; to use them, students had to make a request a week in advance. and priority was given to students who were in classes S, A and B, respectively.
Evans walked among the students and the vast majority of them gave way to him. While he was walking, observing the surroundings, Princess Amelia approached him.
-How have you been? -The princess asked, looking at Evans' right arm.
-Currently fine, I have already adapted. -Evans said calmly.
-Who was it? -Asked the princess without losing her manners.
-An enemy. -Evans indicated.
She looked him in the eyes intently, as if trying to decipher him, then he said:
-You are my fiancée; I won't hide it from you, but this is not the place to talk about it.
-It's right; Apparently I lost my composure when I saw that they hurt what is mine. We'll talk later. -The princess walked away towards a group of noble ladies, some of whom smiled friendly when they saw Evans.
Evans turned and looked at the sphere on the stage.
"Will everyone see the result?"
"How scary!"
"I will show you who is worthy of class S."
"I'll do it right, I have to stay calm."
The variety of murmurs was evident among the more than 200 students. Only those who had already tested their talent were calm and confident.
The students began to look towards the dome when a man with short white hair, a white beard, dark-colored clothing, a firm look and whose expression seemed threatening, took the stage with his imposing presence. It was Deputy Director Morgat Eseridac, a mage at the top of the seventh circle.
After the vice principal, Professor Ilian Sagiriat came on stage, a magician with dark blue hair, dark eyes, who was wearing a black blouse and a white skirt, and on each of her fingers she wore a ring with gems of different colors; She was an elemental mage at the starting point of the seventh circle.
"Students, when you hear your names come on stage immediately, without delays!"
The vice principal announced with a firm tone infused with mana to make it resonate throughout the environment; there was not a single student who did not hear it.
Professor Ilian took out a list from one of her rings, and exclaimed:
"Aneida Ferindar...
Carl Hesticz
Oreqv Swarit
Come on stage."
Three noble students, low in the social hierarchy, were called, two of them seemed nervous, only one brooding-looking boy, with dull blonde hair, gray eyes and pale skin, seemed to be calm or did not care about the result.
The young Aneida placed her hand on the sphere and everyone saw the result appear in the crystal above the sphere.
Elemental affinity: Earth (38%) water (19%)
"they will send her to class C or lower"
"She should pray to get a good grade on the exam"
Everyone began to murmur and some mid-level nobles looked maliciously at the young woman because she was a bit pretty.
Affinity in the academy was evaluated based on the percentage of compatibility that a magician or warrior could have with one or some of the elements, since based on that they would be offered resources to further improve their affinity, but most of those resources were intended for those who had affinities greater than 50%.
So, those with lower affinities always ended up left behind and would have to go back to look for jobs in their kingdoms as long as they had not offended a noble, it was the harsh reality.
