Yamato: (º Д º*)
You've gotta be kidding me…
Yamato stared blankly at the house Shinju had just made using the Four-Pillar House Technique.
Because… Shinju's house was better than the ones he made!
The interior had every facility you could think of—complete with a wooden bed, wooden table, wooden stools, even a wardrobe!
Yamato pinched himself.
Yamato! Pull yourself together!
Don't let this kid's talent crush you!
After a moment's hesitation, Yamato said, "Since you've learned the Four-Pillar House Technique… then its upgraded version, the Serial Pillar Houses Technique—you should…"
Shinju answered innocently,
"I figured it out along with the Four-Pillar House Technique. Just tweak the formula a bit, spend a little more chakra, and you can pull it off."
Without changing his expression, Yamato slapped himself twice in the face.
Idiot!
A genius like Shinju was bound to grasp the jump from basic to advanced jutsu without any trouble!
"Then… Wood Human Clone…"
Yamato probed further.
Shinju: "I tried it the same night I learned Wood Release. The Wood Human Clone is sturdier than a regular Shadow Clone and harder to dispel, but you can't make as many as with the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique…"
Yamato's mouth twitched. Refusing to give up, he pressed on.
"Wood Release Substitution?"
"Got it."
"Wood Release: Tree Wall Barrier?"
"Got it."
"Wood Release: Thorn Killing?"
"Got it."
"…"
One by one, Yamato listed the so-called Wood Release techniques he knew.
And every time Shinju said "Got it," Yamato's heart sank a little further.
By the end, Yamato's pupils were unfocused, his eyes lifeless.
Clinging to a final shred of hope, he named one last technique:
"Kakuan Entering Society with Bliss-Bringing Hands! You can't possibly know this one, right?! This one's specifically for suppressing tailed beast chakra!"
He guessed right—Shinju had never thought of applying Wood Release that way, so he really didn't know this technique.
"Nope."
Shinju shook his head honestly.
After that—
Using the last of his willpower, Yamato forced himself to teach Shinju Kakuan Entering Society with Bliss-Bringing Hands.
Once he was sure Shinju had learned it, Yamato turned and walked away.
Both mentally and physically devastated, he decided he would never see Shinju again for the rest of his life!
This world isn't worth it!
What he had worked decades to achieve, someone else could pick up in minutes!
His mentality was shattered!
...
Elsewhere—
Shinju stared at the spot where Yamato had vanished, dazed.
What's wrong with sensei?
The sharp-minded Shinju quickly thought it through.
Could it be… since I answered "Got it" to every jutsu sensei listed, he thought I was too arrogant and stormed off?
The more he thought about it, the more it seemed possible. Shinju let out a long sigh.
It was all my fault for being too impatient!
Even if I already knew them, I should've watched sensei perform them—after all, those are the fruits of his years of experience…
A true master should always keep the heart of an apprentice!
Doing what I did probably made sensei feel I wasn't taking ninjutsu seriously… or respecting him enough!
Being a ninja is really hard!
...
Late at night—
The door to the Third Hokage's home was knocked on.
The knocking was urgent and heavy—whoever it was, they were in a hurry.
"Hold on, hold on, I'm coming!"
The Third Hokage got up, dressed, and hurried to the door.
He feared something major had happened in the village—why else would someone wake him at this hour?
Once he was dressed, he quickly opened the door.
Standing there was a masked Yamato.
"Yamato, coming to me this late—did something urgent happen in the ANBU?"
The Third asked.
Yamato just stood there in a daze, saying nothing for a long while.
The Third remembered—Yamato had been busy these past two days teaching Shinju ninjutsu.
"Don't tell me… something happened to Shinju?"
The Third's tone grew urgent.
Shinju was an irreplaceable genius!
Losing someone like that would be an enormous loss for Konoha!
But Yamato still stood there, glassy-eyed.
"What are you standing there for? Speak up already!"
"Shinju's fine, Hokage-sama… but I'm never teaching another student again."
After a long pause, Yamato muttered it out.
The Third: ???
"What on earth happened? Tell me everything."
And so, utterly crushed, Yamato slowly recounted Shinju's heaven-defying comprehension.
The Third listened quietly.
Every time Yamato listed another point, the Hokage's heart skipped a beat.
Finally, Yamato gave his conclusion.
"Hokage-sama, it's not that I have a weak mentality—it's that his comprehension is terrifying!"
"He just wanted to move a log, and ended up developing the Flying Thunder God Technique! Can you believe that?!"
"He doesn't need any teacher. Curiosity and interest are his best teachers!"
The Third: "Hsss~~~~"
This was the second time in two days he had shown this level of shock.
The last time was when he learned Shinju could use Nativity of a World of Trees!
Shinju's comprehension could no longer be described as "terrifying."
The Third had previously thought Shinju might become the next God of Shinobi someday.
Now, it seemed that was already inevitable!
He had, on his own, mastered most Wood Release techniques.
And in just a few hours, he had developed and tested a mysterious space–time ninjutsu—an S-rank jutsu, the Flying Thunder God Technique.
A super-genius ninja with the talent of the First Hokage and the brain of the Second Hokage!
His future achievements might surpass even the God of Shinobi!
Faced with such a prodigy, the Third began to wonder if his original training plan had been wrong.
Maybe he should start funneling more learning resources toward Shinju.
After all, if Konoha could raise such a prodigy…
A Wood Release ninja who knew every forbidden technique could intimidate the other Four Great Nations without even lifting a finger!
After thinking it over carefully, the Third decided not to make any sudden moves for now—let things progress naturally.
A true powerhouse needs more than just a body full of powerful ninjutsu—he must also have a strong heart!
