The man waiting there was young, perhaps a few years younger than me, wearing a dark jacket. The sigil stitched on his chest was impossible to miss, Dravenmere's mark.
So it was true.
He rose when I entered, bowing slightly in the formal manner. "Alpha Sylion."
I gave a curt nod and sat opposite him. "Dravenmere rarely sends anyone unannounced. State your purpose."
The young man's lips curved into a polite smile. "I am here on behalf of Alpha Alaric. He sent me personally… to inquire about someone."
The moment that name slipped past his lips, my breath stilled. A surge of unspeakable fury burned its way across my face...
Alaric?
I repeated it in my mind, letting the venom coil around each syllable. My face betrayed nothing except disdain, though beneath the stillness, a storm churned.
I leaned back against the leather chair, letting silence drag long enough to unsettle the young man before me.
