~ELOWEN'S POV~
I sat by the window in my room, staring blankly at the courtyard below. The sky over Tharros was clouded, heavy as if it carried my thoughts that I couldn't put into words.
My fingers traced the rim of the teacup on the table, the steam long faded, leaving only a faint bitterness clinging to the bottom.
Why was I still here? Why hadn't I left already? Because there's no way out for now.
The sound of the door opening pulled me from my thoughts and a maid walked in. She was young, her black hair tied neatly back, eyes on the floor with respect.
She stepped fully into the room and lowered her head respectfully. "Luna… Alpha Sylion asked me to check on you."
I turned sharply, my brows knitted together with anger. That name again. Always him, hovering and trying to insert himself into my life in ways I never asked for.
"I don't need anyone to check on me, leave!" I snapped.
