Chapter 8 - The mark

Lyra felt her heart was in her throat when the beast lunged at her.

She was too stunned and scared to even move a finger.

Its enormous hand which was covered in thick, gruff hair, caught her left leg and dragged her to him as she fell down with a thud.

Lyra screamed as hard as she could, but the beast growled viciously to see how scared she was. Then something happened, the beast eyes softened and it stilled for a second.

'What was that?' But before she could comprehend and organize her thoughts, it sunk his sharp canines into her neck.

The monster pinned Lyra down to the ground rendering her unable to move.

And the touch...

The physical contact made soothed something inside the beast, like something in it was tamed and that feeling was heavenly to a cursed beast full of pain. The monster placed its muzzle against her neck and her scent hit him hard. It was bliss.

His head was thrice the size of her head let alone its huge nose.

For a moment Lyra felt the muzzle snuggling her neck, she thought that was it.

Her slender neck was so thin, the beast could feel the blood coursing through her veins and his instinct kicked in, it was primal instinct, almost like it was the course of nature for it to do it.

Its canines elongated and it sunk its teeth into the tender flesh of her neck, drank in her blood, which soothed it even more. It got rid of the pain of the ravager. Kross' mind became clearer, the fog in his mind reduced. He regained his control.

It was like the beast left willingly and turned dormant.

Suddenly rushed footsteps were heard, "Is the Alpha safe?" The Alpha's personal guard, Axel and his twin Zane rushed.

"We saw the torn door. What happened?" Zane asked. The twins were muscular, they were giants born for battle and the only way to distinguish them was Zane had a scar across his left cheek.

"Stay back!" The beta issued a stern warning which with the tensed situation he used his beta voice. This was a secret that couldn't be shared with a lot of people and now there was even an expected damage or death.

Kross' mind became conscious of his surrounding. He looked down where the beast had pinned down a girl. The girl kept thrashing and fighting the beast off with her measly effort and zero strength. She screamed and cried. He had never seen someone with such peculiar white hair.

Her eyes were closed while she screamed but her voice faded as her consciousness left her, blood drained from her neck, drank by the monster, which slowly returned to its original shape completely.

Now it was Kross, the alpha pining her down. Her blood was dripping down his chin, he looked regal.

"DAMN IT!" Ryan cursed once Kross transformed and he saw the sight of the girl whose white hair was stained red, lying unconsciously while Kross was on top of her.

"Kross?" Noah called out, still not taking chances in approaching him. He had learnt his lesson, the previous time the cursed beast had taken over, he tried fighting it off and he was half dead by the time he was saved, he still had a scar from that altercation.

Kross stood up, his shirt torn, his hair unkempt and blood dripping from his mouth down his chest.

"Who is this?" He asked his voice low.

"We found her here with..." Noah continued, "She's bleeding."

Kross looked down at the unconscious girl, his cold eyes gradually filling up with disgust.

"Call Sena!" Raw anger emanated all through him. "Find out who this is!" he wiped the blood on his mouth and jaw with his palm and left the room. Noah and Ryan could feel the dark aura as he passed them.

"What is..." Zane and Axel approached them, they could not follow the Alpha who was seething with rage.

"Is she alive?" Ryan whispered.

"Zane go to Sena," Noah commanded, "Tell her its urgent."

Noah and Ryan knelt down, looking at the girl, scrutinizing her as Axel stood guarding the door. She was bleeding tons that her white hair was dyed red.

It didn't take long before Zane and the head healer Sena appeared. Sena looked at the men and then her eyes landed on the unconscious girl on the floor.

"She's bleeding too much," Noah pointed out, "She lost a lot of blood."

Sena's eyes never left the girl. She wasn't that agile as she was old, Ryan helped her down to her knees. "Let me see her."

"Will she survive?" Ryan asked.

Sena leaned in, her fingers moving quickly searching for the wound, the source of bleeding.

Then her hands froze.

"She's... marked," Sena announced.
