Standing next to the tall glass wall, I stared out at the rain falling from the darkened sky. Thunder growled through the clouds while the city lay asleep beneath the storm's heavy breath. It had been pouring since afternoon — and to my bad luck, the interview I had been preparing for was scheduled today, only to be postponed because of this furious weather.
I kept staring outside, remembering everything that had happened ever since I had came into this world, All the things that kept happening were still feeling so foreign to me, to be honest it still felt like a dream.
To be in a novel you loved the most, transmigrating into it as the villainess and trying hard to turn her death into a beautiful end, not knowing whether I would live or die.
The weather was said to be remained the same for at least a day the most, maybe some hours, so the whole city had been asleep since then, the roads, the streets, all of them had been totally empty, even the apartment complex was shut down completely.
I was in my thoughts when I heard a slightly loud boom! As all the light in my apartment and outside the window, began shutting down almost immediately.
Wow! Just wow!
Now there was power outage, I went to the kitchen and turned on an emergency lamp, and since I had nothing much to do I began going through all the stuff I had found of Laurel, and was studying it closely in the living room when there was a loud knock on the door.
My brows scrunched on my forehead as I grabbed the torch and walked to the door.
Who could it be?
Kalix? As soon as him name clicked in my mind I looked on the table where all the documents, along with that letter and voice recorder were scattered.
Taking a deep, calming breath, I checked through the peep hole.
It wasn't someone I had known, it was a woman. She again knocked the door, more like banged it.
And I quickly opened it, she was sweating whilst the cold weather, but her hands were trembling, and she was out of breath.
I got worried looking at her condition.
"A...are...are you a... doctor?" She was panting.
"Hey...hey calm down! Take deep breaths first and then tell me what happened?" I took her inside my apartment and handed her a glass of water but she looked quite in a hurry and as if she didn't wanted to waste a second.
"Just tell me if you are a doctor or not!" She required again, and I quickly nodded.
"Come with me then." She replied as I wore a jacket over my sweatshirt and sweat pants.
"What happened?" I asked while getting ready as I picked up my phone, walking with her to the door.
"There is a lady who lives here, she is in Labour, we tried contacting the paramedics but because of the weather we can't get in contact with them." She explained the whole situation to me.
"And what about her family?" I walked out of the apartment along with her, taking the stairs as we hurried to the floor where that woman was.
"She lives here alone, usually either her brother or her house help, one of them stays with her, but by chance no one is here is right now, nor her brother nor the house help, I tried calling Mr. Luca too, but he is currently in another city, and I can't contact him either." She kept telling me what I wanted to know.
"Are you a staff member of this building?" I asked to which she nodded.
"I am the assistant manager."
"Okay then firstly you will take me to that lady's room, then there are some things that I require, try as hard as you can to contact, a hospital, any hospital would work in case she has to undergo a surgery, second of all I need some supplies, for the delivery, bring me rubbing alcohol, medical latex gloves, if you have, if don't just rubbing alcohol would work, other than that I need water, clean and completely sterilised towels and scissors, a big bowl filled with warm water, okay?" I told her all the things I needed for the surgery.
But I was afriad that what if, something bad happens in between the delivery, and a c-section is needed then what?
No negative thoughts, we have to protect two lives, two lives need you Sarah, two lives are at stake!
As soon as I entered the apartment, I could hear a woman's cries of pain as I went inside the room she was in, some other female staff was with her, some of them had torches in their hands, while other were with that lady trying to calm her down.
"Excuse me, give me some space." I said to the staff who were surrounding her as they stepped away and I sat next to her.
She was young, maybe no older than 20, her black hair were damp with sweat.
"Hey brave woman!" I softly called out to her caressing her sweaty pale face.
Her body was trembling, as her hands clutched onto the bedsheets of the bed she was laying on. Hearing my voice, she opened her eyes, making her shimmery, sea green eyes became visible to me; so pretty!
"I'm here to help you, okay? Firstly tell me, your name and how old are you, slowly and keep taking deep breaths... okay?" For now all I wanted was to divert her mind, even if she was in pain, she looked quite stressed too, from my guess she was a single mother, because as the assistant manager said, either her brother or the house help was around her, never her husband or boyfriend, and now when she strongly needed them, none of them are here with her either.
Of course she would be stressed.
"C...cecily, I...am 21 years old." She said stifling a groan, slowly and taking in deep breaths as I had told her to do so.
"Okay Cecily, you are doing so good, and just like that I need you to keep breathing, okay?" I caressed her hands wiping away the sweat beads that had formed on her forehead.
"I...need light here, enough to lighten up the whole room." I requested the other staff women standing there as four of them left the apartment.
And then I walked back to Cecily.
"Cecilly, can I check you? I want to know how much dilated you are?" I softly asled, not wanting to make her uncomfortable which might tense her up or make her panic and raise the chances of C-section, I want to avoid it all I can.
She wasn't replying back to me at all.
As I softly called out to her once again
She was crying continuously, her grip on the sheets was getting tighter, her eyes shut tightly, and upon hearing my voice she opened her eyes and looked at me.
She looked like a baby herself, how am I going to be able to deliver her baby?
All of a sudden the clouds roared very loudly, as she flinched and her hands left the bedsheet and quickly covered both her ears with her hands.
The shivering in her body, intensified, as she let out a high-pitched scream.
Shit- she was panicking.
