Rachel unlocked the door to her place, her heels making silent click sounds as she went inside. She smelled nice cologne and baby powder, and before she could put her bag down, David ran to her from down the hall.
"Mommy!" He stretched out his little arms, his eyes full of excitement.
Rachel smiled gently as she bent down to hug him. "Look at you," she said, hugging him close. "You're all dressed up."
Tessa came up behind him, looking a bit worried but also proud. She had dressed David in a small suit, with shiny shoes and a bow tie that was a little off. His hair was neatly combed to the side, but a curl had already come loose. Which she pushed back in.
Rachel raised her eyebrow. "Someone helped you, right?" she joked, looking at Tessa.
Tessa laughed a little, nervously. "Just a tiny bit."
Rachel stood up and fixed her own clothes. She had changed into a simple but fancy dress, not too showy but nice enough to get attention. She was ready for the night, and so was David.
