Chapter 121 - Dumbledore

Things had been interesting recently. Perhaps not all for the best reasons unfortunately but interesting all the same. I had discovered an unusually gifted and mysterious child, my old student Tom was skulking about and the Potter boy was at school finally. The first of these things took me by surprise I must admit. Alexander Drake was a strange child in many ways. Wise beyond his years, both unusually intelligent and yet immature at the same time. What intrigued me most about the boy was his incredible wealth and items, neither had any explainable origin.-

I had looked into it the moment it came to my attention but as far as everything showed the wealth simply appeared from thin air, troubling to say the least. There weren't many capable of pulling a fast one in front of me but that number was never zero so I couldn't rule out an outside influence. Even more incredible was the boys uncanny abilities. When I first attempted to use legilimency on him to discover the origin of his wealth I had felt my probing magic get violently attacked and assumed it was because the boy was a natural occlumens.-

I was mistaken however as I later discovered. The truth was far more extraordinary, he could use soul magic innately. From my own and my colleagues observations it appeared he only used three spells but it couldn't be known if he had more. The first spell was the one I myself suffered from as it appeared to lash out with his soul. A crude but effective counter to legilimency though that may not be it's limit. The second was a sort of pseudo-omniscience where he fills an area with his souls perception to allow him to observe everything from every angle.-

To those of us with strong souls or powerful instincts the spell feels like thousands of eyes gazing at us from all directions, thankfully the ghost repelling charm appears to work on the spell due to it's spiritual nature. I learned from Filius however that the boy has improved the spell further after Filius modified a notice me not charm to pass through the spell. This new version could not even be detected anymore which while impressive is equally concerning. The range of the spell is unknown but given todays events I believe it is incredibly wide.-

The third spell he has is of particular interest among the other Professors and I as it seems to be a sort of localized protective magic that coats his body when in use. It's use is both invisible and durable enough to withstand smaller magical effects. If not for the slight magical pressure he exerts when using it the spell would be undetectable. The thing that most intrigues me however is the boys aspirations and claims. He claims to want to be a merchant in the future and that he had already started making contacts who can provide him goods to sell. -

An amusing and silly concept at first but reality proved that thought process wrong. He has already proven that this is not a joking matter. Eggs from species I wasn't even aware existed and now a bird strikingly similar to a Phoenix. There is more as well, I am certain of it. I attempted to follow him to discover the source of his strange merchandise but was quickly discovered and led by the nose embarrassingly through the forest. A relieving fact however is the boy has a playful touch to his seriousness that distinctly sets him apart from my old student Tom.-

Tom was charming and could wear a smile as he poisoned your drink but his was all an act. There was always some goal in mind for everything he did. Alex was not the same, the boy was genuine in his mannerism. He did not hide the fact he was not an outgoing person behind false smiles and honied words. He reminded me of a certain old friend of mine and that unsettled me far more than even him being like Tom. His contacts were what interested me the most however recently as my curiosity was nagging at me to find out what they were.-

I couldn't help but sigh as I thought of all this in my office as I stared out the window at the castles expanse. Things were in motion that I hoped wouldn't be derailed by the boy's unexpected presence. Harry and Toms shared fate was beginning to unfold with me carefully watching and ready to nudge things along to make sure it went the best way for the world. Tom was coming back and all I could do was hope that Harry would be prepared to face him when the time came.-

My experiences told me the future was going to be quite intense and for the first time in quite some time I wasn't sure exactly what the source of this was. It all seemed to revolve around these three individuals with young Alex being the wildcard. Without exact knowledge of his potential merchandise and magical limitations I couldn't plan around him. He was a variable that I instinctively knew was the pivot that would decide how it all played out. A heavy thing for a child to bear knowingly or otherwise.
