Dumbledore's eyes twinkled at this "An admirable mindset. As to your inquiry, on the rest of that rooms contents we are of two minds. The first is that after being thoroughly examined to prevent any further accidents the treasures are given to you. Professor Gervain himself is at the head of this, no doubt in hopes of compensating you for your suffering. The second is that the items be put on display here at Hogwarts due to both their rarity and historical value. Knowing this I am curious as to your own thoughts on the matter." he said calmly.
"Albus surely you don't intend to listen to a child on such a serious subject!?" Madam Pomphrey said outraged.
Dumbledore raised his hand to calm her "In any other circumstance I would at most take the words of a child under advisement. This matter is directly tied to young Alex himself however and fairness demands his voice be heard." he said firmly and the woman looked like she wanted to argue but eventually just sighed and remained quiet.
I seriously took a moment to think about the matter and how best to answer.
'As much as I would want to claim all that treasure for myself all that would accomplish would be to show greed. The second option is also not ideal as then I definitely lose out. So what is the right choice here?' I ponder seriously.
None of them disturbed my thought process but waited patiently as they definitely understood how big a decision this was. After seriously giving it my best roll over in my head I came to a sort of middle ground option.
"Perhaps it would be best if we mixed the two options." I said and all three of them reacted strongly to this.
Flitwick looked surprised and kind of proud oddly enough. Pomphrey looked stuck between praise and rebuke giving her a funny expression. Dumbledore however bloomed a smile as his eyes lit up as if I had passed some sort of unspoken test with flying colors. That reaction in particular set off red flags in my head as it really wouldn't be strange if that was precisely his intention. The books already painted the man as someone manipulative and cunning so testing me with something like this would not be out of character at all.-
"An intriguing idea. I can see a path along this premise but perhaps your idea differs from my own. Would you please elaborate?" he asked with that same gentle manner that was deceptive.
Despite my reservations I acquiesced "Some items there are naturally not something I could reasonably own. The sheath of Gryffindor for example should naturally belong to Hogwarts. The trophies taken from the long thought extinct magical beasts also needed preservation. The books would also naturally belong to Hogwarts if their origin is not a fanciful tale. Perhaps there are other equally historically significant artifacts there but I wouldn't know given my accident happened before I could learn." I said seriously before pausing for a moment to let the words sink in.
"My idea is that the items that can't reasonably belong to me go to Hogwarts and those that can, go to me. Additionally I'd want access to the books since theres no telling what secrets they hold." I finished seriously.
"Surprisingly reasonable all things considered. And what of the spear?" Flitwick asked curiously.
"Naturally that belongs to me. Whatever historical value it has no longer matters. It cost me so much to claim, I won't give it up." I said firmly.
"That is fair. I wouldn't mind studying the artifact however. I have never heard of any that match it's likeness yet clearly it is no simple thing." Dumbledore said eying the spear in interest.
"With that settled I suppose we need to discus my classes. For charms I should be fine but for Potions, herbology and transfiguration no such luck. I cannot exactly practice those from this bed." I said helplessly.
"That was a concern but what do you mean you should be fine for charms?" Flitwick asked curiously.
"I already memorized and mastered the entire textbooks content for this year and half of the textbook for next year as well over the summer. I of course did the same for every other subject as well but without practice I cannot claim mastery for anything beyond theory." I said honestly.
"That doesn't make any sense. What of the trace?" Pomphrey asked in disbelief.
"I looked into the trace and found a loophole. The trace doesn't detect whether or not a young wizard or witch uses magic but rather if magic was used in their vicinity. For most muggleborns this works just as good since there are no other sources of magic but what about those from wizarding families? The trace only works if there is no other wizards nearby to cover the young wizard or witches magic usage with their own. I have been living in Tom's pub however, a magical hotspot and thus perfectly concealed." I explained smugly.
"I don't know if I should be proud at your ingenuity or appalled at your blatant disregard for the law." Flitwick said with a troubled frown.
"Ignoring laws is a poor habit young Alex. That said in this case it makes things considerably easier for us. If you truly have mastered the theoretical aspects of the classes then you can be quizzed on the matter in place of in class activity and homework while you are recovering." Dumbledore said with an amused expression despite chastising me for breaking the law.
"If my hands weren't like this I could easily demonstrate my mastery of charms at least. Otherwise I don't mind being quizzed at all, I rather welcome it in fact. I do have quite the number of questions myself that I would like answered and who better than the professors themselves to do so?" I said with a grin.
"I see the hat was not mistaken in putting you in Ravenclaw at all. Still we have disturbed your rest long enough and will leave you be until it is time for your quizzes." Dumbledore said and Flitwick wished me fast recovery before they left me with Madam Pomphrey.
