The bathroom was filled with steam.
Standing under the shower, Ryūsei washed away the fatigue of the past few days. With his head tilted back and eyes closed, he immersed himself in recalling the main storyline.
Tazuna was a key figure in the Land of Waves arc and the client who assigned Team 7 their first C-rank mission. However, this mission was far from simple. The man who wanted Tazuna dead was none other than Gato, one of the wealthiest tycoons in the shinobi world. Gato's forces included not only a large number of rogue samurai and missing-nin but also Momochi Zabuza, the "Demon of the Hidden Mist," who was on the same level as the infamous Raiga.
But Ryūsei wasn't concerned about Gato or Zabuza. His focus was on the boy who accompanied Zabuza—Haku.
The boy with The Red Eye who followed Raiga—Ryūsei still couldn't remember his name. However, the name "Haku" and the character himself left a deep impression on Ryūsei.
There was no helping it—this character was immensely popular. Before his official gender was revealed, countless fans had mistaken him for a woman. On certain forums and videos, he was often ranked as one of the most beautiful women in the Naruto world.
In the early arcs, many prodigies shone even brighter than Naruto, the reincarnation of the Sage's son, and Sasuke, the last Uchiha.
Haku was one of them.
The Ice Release Kekkei Genkai and one-handed seals—these were two things Ryūsei coveted deeply.
Ice Release was a Kekkei Genkai formed by the fusion of Water Release and Wind Release nature transformations. If Ryūsei could acquire this ability, he wouldn't just gain Wind Release chakra—his mastery over Wind Release nature transformation would skyrocket from zero to an advanced level.
Combined with Sakura's chakra control, Ryūsei was confident that even without Sage Mode, he could develop the perfected Wind Release: Rasenshuriken.
Not just the Rasenshuriken—he was certain he could also recreate the true Water Vortex Spear.
As for one-handed seals? There was no need to even explain. Before the era of "hands-together-no-justu," this was the ultimate trick for catching opponents off guard.
With that thought, Ryūsei made up his mind.
He had to participate in the Land of Waves arc. He had to extract these two abilities from Haku.
After drying his hair, Ryūsei summoned the virtual interface and fused the red orb in his inventory.
As the crimson light seeped into his body, the Kekkei Genkai column on the interface displayed a new entry beside the Sharingan: "The Red Eye."
Shua—
Unlike when he fused with Asura's chakra or the Sharingan, the moment Ryūsei integrated the "Red Eye" Kekkei Genkai, his irises—now free of colored contacts—flared with a dazzling red glow.
The light made his crimson pupils resemble radiant rubies, exuding an eerie aura.
His vision shifted from normal colors to a monochromatic red. His perspective transformed from first-person to a god-like omniscient view, allowing him to see through all obstacles and observe everything within a radius of at least one kilometer.
Deactivating the X-ray and telescopic functions, Ryūsei suddenly increased his Yin Release chakra output.
Red particles materialized in the air.
Then, Hinata's figure appeared before him out of nowhere.
This "Hinata" was nothing more than a mirage-like illusion. Yet, whether observed by the Byakugan, Sharingan, or even advanced sensory techniques, she would be perceived as a real person—complete with chakra pathways circulating inside her body, a trait exclusive to living beings.
"Who would've thought that after failing to acquire the Byakugan for so long, I'd end up with this knockoff Red Eye first?" Ryūsei deactivated the Red Eye, silently musing.
He wasn't sure where the Red Eye originated, but its abilities were strikingly similar to the Byakugan.
The only difference was that the Byakugan saw the world in black and white, while the Red Eye tinted everything in red.
If it displayed colors, it would practically be a crimson version of the Jōgan.
Moreover, the Red Eye possessed an illusionary ability that the Byakugan lacked. It could create lifelike illusions of people and objects, fooling even the Byakugan's perception. Its stealth capabilities surpassed even the Transparency Jutsu, as it could conceal entire groups rather than just the user.
This very ability earned the Red Eye its reputation as the "Byakugan's natural enemy."
At first glance, the Red Eye seemed superior.
And it would be—if the Byakugan couldn't evolve, mutate, or branch into higher forms.
But that wasn't the case.
As of now, the Byakugan was the origin of all ocular jutsu.
Whether it was the Sharingan, Rinnegan, Tenseigan, or Jōgan—all of them evolved or mutated from the Byakugan.
Ryūsei even suspected that the Red Eye and Ketsuryūgan might also be Byakugan variants, though he had no proof.
The fact that he could use the Red Eye immediately after fusion was good news.
This way, he could monitor Tazuna's movements and know exactly when he left Konoha.
Lying in bed, Ryūsei activated the Red Eye once more, located Tazuna's position within the village, and then closed his eyes to rest.
---
He slept soundly until 7 AM the next morning.
The moment Ryūsei woke up, he reactivated the Red Eye to check on Tazuna. Seeing that the old man was still asleep, Ryūsei proceeded with his morning routine—washing up, followed by training in his courtyard.
After training, he had his shadow clone prepare breakfast while he took another shower.
By the time he finished eating, it was already 8:30.
Tazuna had woken up and, clutching his nearly empty bottle of sake from the previous night, was heading toward the Hokage's office.
Coincidentally, not long after Tazuna entered the building, Team 7 arrived at the entrance.
In Sakura's arms was a small cat.
Seeing this, Ryūsei immediately knew—the first arc of the main storyline was about to begin.
He returned to the bathroom, put in his colored contacts, and checked the contents of his inventory. Grabbing a marker, he stepped outside and wrote "Away for Training" on the signboard by his door.
Then, he slipped into a nearby alley and formed a hand seal:
"Transformation Jutsu!"
When he emerged, he had taken the form of a shabbily dressed middle-aged man wearing a straw hat.
---
"…You may pass."
At the village gates, Ryūsei locked eyes with the two Chunin on guard duty.
In an instant, their expressions glazed over, and they allowed him through without question.
Konoha was the military stronghold of the Land of Fire, protected by the finest sensory barrier in the shinobi world. The only entrance and exit was the main gate.
Entering the village wasn't difficult—sometimes, registration wasn't even required.
But for outsiders and villagers alike, leaving required an official exit permit issued by the Hokage's office. Villagers also needed a valid reason for approval.
This was why Ryūsei and others his age had never left Konoha since birth.
Applying for an exit permit was out of the question—it would leave a paper trail.
So, Ryūsei opted for the same method Itachi Uchiha had used when he returned to the village: genjutsu.
After hypnotizing the gatekeepers, he walked out freely.
Once outside, he climbed a tree a few hundred meters away and activated the Red Eye's illusionary concealment, masking his presence as he waited for Team 7 and Tazuna to appear.
Before long, the group exited the village and set off toward the Land of Waves.
Along the way, the three genin of Team 7 marveled at the unfamiliar sights outside the village. Kakashi, as usual, buried his nose in Make-Out Paradise, paying no attention to his surroundings.
Only Tazuna seemed uneasy, taking frequent sips from his nearly empty bottle to mask his nervousness.
He knew exactly what kind of enemies awaited him on this journey.
He also knew he had lied about the mission's rank when submitting the request.
So now, he was torn between fear of the enemy's appearance and dread that the shinobi would abandon him once they discovered his deception.
'If I die… the Land of Waves will truly be doomed.'
