No sooner had Haku left than Kakashi collapsed into unconsciousness due to overusing his Sharingan.
In Ryūsei's previous life, Kakashi had been jokingly referred to by countless netizens as the "unit of measurement for chakra." However, in reality, Kakashi's chakra reserves were as terrifying as those of the Uzumaki clan or the Sage Body of the Senju clan.
By the age of five, Kakashi was already capable of using the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. In the original storyline, without the burden of the Sharingan, he developed the Purple Electricity technique within just a few years, achieving Kage-level strength. His astonishing chakra capacity even allowed him to perform an Earth Release technique that could encircle the entire Hidden Leaf Village.
Fortunately, his immense chakra reserves had been present since childhood—otherwise, with the constant drain from his transplanted Sharingan, Kakashi would have died long ago.
Haku was unaware that his enemy had also reached his limit. Even if he had known, given his nature, he would never have attacked Team 7. After retrieving Zabuza, Haku immediately activated the Body Flicker Technique at full speed, desperate to return to their hideout and treat his master.
Just then, a shadow suddenly loomed over him.
To be precise, a massive shadow swept over from behind.
The sound of surging waves filled his ears. When Haku turned to look, his expression beneath the mask twisted in shock.
A colossal wave, like the hand of a sea god, was crashing down upon him.
Already in the midst of a Body Flicker, Haku had no chance to dodge. He didn't even have time to question how this wave had appeared or why he hadn't sensed the presence of the ninja who had cast it.
Instinctively, Haku formed a one-handed seal:
"Ice Release: Ice Rock Dome!"
The moisture in the air rapidly condensed, forming a massive ice wall. Haku shielded Zabuza behind it, pressing himself against the frozen barrier.
The enormous wave slammed into the ice wall with devastating force.
The lethality of Water Release lay in its sheer impact and weight. The wave shattered the thick ice wall in an instant, engulfing both Haku and Zabuza.
Thankfully, the ice wall had absorbed most of the impact. Though swept away by the current, Haku didn't suffer any internal injuries, and Zabuza's condition didn't worsen.
As Haku allowed the current to carry him away, he gathered chakra in his feet, preparing to escape with the Body Flicker Technique the moment the wave subsided.
But then, thick white mist suddenly filled the air, transforming the surroundings into a dense fog in the blink of an eye.
Recognizing the technique immediately, Haku's expression twisted in shock once more.
"Hidden Mist Technique!"
Had the Hidden Mist Village sent someone to capture Zabuza?
Thinking quickly, Haku formed another one-handed seal, ready to use his Ice Release to escape with Zabuza.
But before he could complete the hand signs, a red powder drifted into his vision.
The next second, his movements froze. His body felt as though it had been bound to a tree, completely immobilized.
And indeed, from Haku's perspective, a massive tree had appeared out of nowhere, its vines wrapping around him and Zabuza like tentacles.
Then, everything went black as he lost consciousness.
From start to finish, he never even caught a glimpse of his attacker.
"No luck?"
After the mist dissipated, Ryūsei stared at the unconscious Haku, noting the absence of any glowing light. He muttered to himself, unsurprised but not particularly disappointed.
Retrieving two chains from his spatial backpack, Ryūsei bound Zabuza (still in a death-like state) and Haku (knocked out), then slung them over his shoulders and used the Body Flicker Technique to transport them to a remote area in the Land of Waves.
After setting them down, Ryūsei donned a mask and formed a shadow clone. The experiment began.
Ryūsei pulled the senbon from Zabuza's neck while his clone performed medical ninjutsu to heal him.
Before long, Zabuza's eyelids twitched, and he groaned, his vision still blurry as he muttered, "Took you long enough, Haku—"
THWACK!
Before Zabuza's vision could clear, a swift chop to the neck knocked him out again.
"Again."
Seeing no glow from Zabuza's body, Ryūsei remained expressionless.
His shadow clone—whose chakra reserves would make Kakashi weep—continued administering basic medical ninjutsu.
Ryūsei's father had been a combat-oriented ninja, specializing in Water Release. His mother, on the other hand, had been a support-type kunoichi, skilled in medical ninjutsu.
In fact, Hinata and Sakura had learned their medical techniques from Ryūsei.
Perhaps due to his Sage Body and Asura's chakra, Ryūsei's medical ninjutsu was exceptionally potent—far surpassing even the A-Rank Mystical Palm Technique.
He could only imagine how powerful his healing would become once he mastered Mystical Palm. Would even the most severe injuries be instantly cured?
Under the clone's treatment, Zabuza soon regained consciousness once more.
This time, his vision cleared enough to see Ryūsei—and the bound Haku beside him.
"You—"
Before Zabuza could widen his eyes and demand answers, another chop sent him back into darkness.
"...Again."
Still no glow. Ryūsei frowned slightly but gave the order once more.
The clone obeyed silently, continuing its work.
THWACK!
THWACK!
THWACK!
Zabuza woke up, only to be knocked out again and again.
After countless repetitions, just as Ryūsei was about to deem the experiment a failure—
SWOOSH!
This time, when Zabuza collapsed, something finally happened.
A white light flickered across Zabuza's body, then condensed into a floating orb of light that drifted upward.
At last, Ryūsei smiled in satisfaction.
As expected. Any form of victory can trigger the "loot drop" mechanism.
With that confirmed, Ryūsei turned his attention to Haku, determined to extract something valuable.
Just like Zabuza, Haku was repeatedly awakened, knocked out, and healed.
But even as night fell—with Zabuza naturally regaining consciousness multiple times, only to be mercilessly struck down again—Haku's body emitted not a single glow, not even the lowest-tier white.
This was a familiar scenario for Ryūsei.
Ino and Hinata had been the same. Over the years, despite numerous encounters, he had never managed to obtain the Yamanaka clan's Mind Body Switch Technique from Ino or the Byakugan from Hinata.
Even Sasuke—who frequently sparred with Ryūsei during exams and impromptu tests—had only ever dropped two orbs: one blue, one red. And Sasuke was the only one in class who could hold his own against Ryūsei for any length of time, solidly ranking as the second strongest.
Initially, Ryūsei had assumed his inability to obtain rare abilities from Ino and Hinata was simply due to bad luck.
But now, after experimenting with Zabuza and Haku—and considering Sasuke's case—he realized that luck was only part of the problem. The bigger issue was… the drop rate had decreased!
Just as taijutsu battles bound by rules affected invisible scoring and made loot drops rare, Ryūsei's method of repeatedly knocking out his opponents likely lowered both the rating and drop rate for high-tier rewards like Ice Release (a red-tier Kekkei Genkai) or One-Handed Seals (undoubtedly blue-tier).
Moreover, the vast power gap between him and Haku meant that defeating a weaker opponent like Haku wouldn't yield the same scoring as defeating someone like Kurenai or Zabuza.
That must be why Ino and Hinata never dropped anything!
The more Ryūsei thought about it, the more convinced he became.
With that in mind, he abandoned the knockout method and prepared to try a different approach.
