Time is like a swing—with just a gentle sway, it carries you from late March to early June in the blink of an eye.
Over these past two months, the 60th generation of genin had been busy with various D-rank missions.
These D-rank missions mostly involved helping villagers with trivial chores—babysitting, assisting with farm work, cleaning out clogged ditches, and so on.
What's more, the rewards for these missions were pitifully low, further diminished after being split between the village, the supervising jōnin, and teammates.
Anyone lacking patience would have found it utterly frustrating.
Take Team 7, for example. Fresh out of the academy, they had fantasized about protecting high-ranking officials of the Land of Fire or battling formidable enemies.
In contrast, Team 8 remained diligent and uncomplaining.
Because Ryūsei and the others understood—these D-rank missions weren't just about grinding experience; they were also tempering their minds and strengthening their teamwork.
So, unlike some who might have relied on shadow clones, Ryūsei and Hinata personally handled every task.
Moreover, Kurenai was nothing like the lazy, indifferent Kakashi. As a first-time jōnin instructor, she took her responsibilities seriously.
Every time Ryūsei and his teammates completed a mission, Kurenai would teach them essential skills.
For instance, tree-walking and water-walking—techniques Ryūsei and Hinata had already mastered.
She then tested their chakra natures.
Finally, she even brought out a genjutsu scroll to see if any of them possessed an affinity for Yin Release.
After all this…
Kurenai found herself treasuring Ryūsei as a student even more.
In fact, she couldn't shake the feeling that Ryūsei was a gift from the heavens—the perfect successor to inherit the Yūhi family's legacy.
Because Shino and Hinata both lacked the aptitude for genjutsu, meaning they had no Yin Release chakra.
As a genjutsu specialist, Kurenai had little left to teach them beyond basic shinobi skills.
When it came to their clan techniques, she had no right to offer guidance.
Only Ryūsei mastered the genjutsu scroll she provided in a single day.
This meant he not only possessed Yin Release chakra but also had an exceptional talent for genjutsu.
Thus, Kurenai began focusing all her efforts on training Ryūsei, giving him private lessons right in front of Shino and Hinata.
Over these two months, Ryūsei's strength had grown exponentially.
First and foremost, his genjutsu prowess had gone from zero to surpassing all his peers.
Even if he only used genjutsu, Ryūsei was confident he could defeat any of peers.
Because his Sharingan had finally evolved into the Three-Tomoe stage.
All of this was thanks to his Illusion Specialist talent.
Genjutsu was a Yin Release ninjutsu, while the Sharingan was a Yin Release kekkei genkai.
However, before evolving into the Three-Tomoe stage, the Sharingan was merely an Insight Eye and a Copy Eye.
The Uchiha clan's fame across the shinobi world, their near-invincibility in one-on-one combat, stemmed from the Three-Tomoe Sharingan.
As for the Mangekyō Sharingan? That was a legendary eye, spoken of only in myths.
Every Uchiha who mastered the Three-Tomoe Sharingan to its peak became an elite jōnin, a genjutsu expert, and a natural counter to illusions.
Because this kekkei genkai was downright unfair—requiring no hand seals, just a single glance to plunge an opponent into a genjutsu without them even realizing it.
If the opponent was a genjutsu user, unless their Yin Release chakra surpassed the Uchiha's, the Sharingan would automatically reflect the illusion back at them.
In the original story, Kurenai learned this the hard way when Uchiha Itachi used Genjutsu: Reflection against her.
For this reason, any shinobi who wasn't skilled at breaking genjutsu—or lacked a countermeasure—might as well surrender their eyes before fighting an Uchiha.
This was even deadlier than handicapping yourself in a game.
Because in reality, if you were hit by a killing move—you died.
Perhaps because Ryūsei's training in genjutsu refined his control over Yin Release chakra, his brain began producing more of it.
Thus, his Sharingan, already at a bottleneck, naturally evolved into the Three-Tomoe stage.
Once his Sharingan reached the level of a true Genjutsu Eye, Ryūsei's already extraordinary talent for illusions skyrocketed as if he had cheated the system.
The ninjutsu Kurenai taught him? He mastered them effortlessly. And if he wished, he could even cast them without hand seals.
By the time Ryūsei fully adapted to his Three-Tomoe Sharingan, his genjutsu prowess had completely surpassed Kurenai's.
This was the difference between an ordinary person and a cheat character.
This was the Legend of the Eyes!
This feeling was something Rock Lee from the original story understood all too well.
Beyond his combat abilities, Ryūsei's relationship with Hinata had also progressed at breakneck speed over these two months.
Every day after missions, Ryūsei would invite Hinata to train at his place.
Though she was always shy, she never refused.
At first, Ryūsei remained restrained and gentlemanly, acting only as her sparring partner.
But once Hinata grew accustomed to being alone with him, Ryūsei began his "training."
During taijutsu sparring, he no longer stuck to simple exchanges or light touches.
Instead, he gradually introduced unpredictability, secretly activating his Sharingan to exploit every opening in Hinata's form.
Using precise, calculated movements, he engineered situations where they'd end up in close, intimate positions—hugs, accidental embraces, and the like.
And his "training" was remarkably effective.
At first, Hinata would instantly turn into a steaming, blushing mess, sometimes even fainting on the spot.
But since Ryūsei never pushed further, she gradually adapted, building an immunity to these close encounters.
After each training session, Hinata would stay at Ryūsei's place for dinner.
At home, she was too self-conscious—her younger sister and father still didn't know about her bottomless appetite.
Only Ryūsei prepared enough food for her.
And only in front of him would she eat without restraint.
However, learning from their first mishap, Hinata now always sent a shadow clone to assist Ryūsei's clone with cooking.
Since Ryūsei covered the cost of ingredients—and Hinata ate the most—she insisted on giving him her mission earnings.
Ryūsei didn't refuse.
After graduating from the academy, the village had stopped his orphan stipend.
Without any high-rank missions yet, his daily income couldn't even cover one of Hinata's meals.
Thus, Ryūsei and Hinata had effectively started living like a married couple ahead of time.
While helping Ryūsei clean, Hinata even took to doing his laundry.
Whenever this happened, Ryūsei would praise her for being "such a good wife," making the girl blush furiously—further deepening her devotion.
Thankfully, after graduation, Hyūga Hiashi had shifted his focus to his more talented younger daughter.
He had no idea that after every mission, his eldest was going to a boy's house for meals, cleaning, and laundry.
Otherwise, Ryūsei might have found himself under the scrutiny of an elite jōnin.
The days of blissful routine passed swiftly.
Then, one morning at 9 a.m., Team 8 gathered at their usual spot, waiting for Kurenai.
Whoosh—
As always, Kurenai arrived precisely on time, appearing before them in a shunshin.
But her next words made all three genin's eyes light up:
"You've all performed exceptionally well these past months, earning high praise from every client. So today… I've decided to take you on a higher-rank mission."
