Chapter 10 - Donald Valdosta's POV

I was staring at Mikel with a steady look on my face. I wanted to hear the excuse that he was going to give because it was obvious that he was so interested in me and was looking for every opportunity to talk me down.

"Interested in your affairs, Donald, am I?" He asked, staring back at me, but I knew he was only pretending.

"No, Mikel, you are obsessed with me, and I truly cannot understand why. Is this still because I won the place of the Lycan King fair and square?" I asked him to take more steps towards them as I stared at his face.

"Why would this concern the election? This is between you and me. "Don't you know you need to explain to every member of the pack why you have a woman in your mansion and wouldn't tell us? Is it because she might probably be human?" he asked, and at that moment I tried to maintain my composure so he was not going to get the slightest idea that he was close to the truth.

"This conversation is over, Mikel. You are not my father, and you have no right to question me about my affairs. "Besides, you of all people should know how much I hate humans, let alone to have one in my house," I said to him and turned around again to walk away.

"So which one are you denying? that you have a woman in your house or that she's human?" He asked me, but without responding to him, I walked out of the door and closed it behind me.

I could not understand exactly how Mikel was prying into my life so much that he seemed to get every detail before it even got out.

I once thought that I had a betrayer among my staff, but I accessed them again, and I secretly watched all their moves. None of them was giving out information to Mikel, and I could not tell how he was doing all these things.

I stood outside there for about 10 minutes as the conversation between me and Mikel began to replay in my mind. I knew that it was already dangerous that Mikel was suspecting, and I could not hide Cassie away from him for so long.

After a few seconds I took a deep breath and walked out of the suite. The drive home was quiet; it was already midnight, but it was not a full moon night, so we did not have to worry about wolfing out.

On the full moon night I would have a meeting with all of the wolves and tell them about Cassie except that I would hide the fact that she is a human and say she's a wolf. That was the only way I was going to protect her there in the mansion in the midst of all the wolves because they would not accept it if she was human.

The next morning I woke up early and was dressed for work when I got a call from Taylor.

"Sir, you've got a message from the pack. "The Alphas demand an emergency meeting," he said to me over the phone, and I knew immediately that it was the handiwork of Mikel.

"Emergency?" I asked.

"Yes, sir."

"Okay, tell them I'll meet them at the hall in two hours. Also, call my secretary to reschedule all my meetings." I said to him.

If the alphas were calling for an emergency meeting like that, it means that Mikel had made a bigger deal out of this than it should be.

I met Taylor outside the house and asked him to drive to the company first.

"The alpha gathering – did they mention the reason?" I asked Taylor, who was glancing at the mirror in front of him as I spoke behind him.

"No sir, but Alpha Jamiel was the one who called, and from his tone, it seemed quite important."

I didn't say a word anymore; I was going to meet with them and understand why they would have an emergency meeting like that.

After about an hour at the office, I was on my way to the meeting hall, which was a distance away from us. Taylor was the only staff allowed to accompany me to the gathering of the Wolves, and that was because he was a loyal servant and wolf.

The entrance to the hall had a rare security pass; only a wolfblood could unlock the door, making it completely impossible for a human to enter.

I stood by the side as Taylor unlocked the door. I was fully dressed in a wine-coloured suit with a clean white shirt inside that had the first three buttons unhooked.

As I walked into the hall, all the alphas of the seven packs that made up our united society were already seated, waiting for the alpha.

"It's a Tuesday morning," I said, standing some way from the door while staring at all of them. "For wolves or humans, this is supposed to be business time, not for meetings of the packs. Can someone explain this?" I asked, moving my gaze from one of them to the other.

Mikel was already seated too; I could almost see the corner of his lips curling up in a smile. He seemed excited.

"We welcome you, Lycan alpha, but this is also an important meeting." Alpha Jamiel said, standing up slowly until he stood facing me from the distance.

I gave him a short stare before glancing at the other alphas and then back to Jamiel.

"Kindly share what this is about."

"It has gotten to our notice, Lycan Alpha, that you have a partner but decide to keep it a secret from the council," he remarked.

"Yes, that's true," I responded without hesitation.

"Why?" he questioned.

"Because she's not going to last, and I should not be discussing my conquest with you all," I replied, giving him a dead stare.

"My apologies," he responded and slowly sat back on the chair below him.

I was about to speak when Mikel's voice cut me.

"How about the Lycan alpha tell us the exact nature of this partner?" He asked, standing up.

I chuckled at his words and smiled slowly. "What do you mean?" I asked him.

"Is she a wolf or human?" He asked, looking very curious, and so were the other alphas, who were now all staring at me.
