Chapter 24 - CHAPTER 24

Slowly, I started to close my eyes, drifting off to sleep. A bunch of thoughts went through my head.

But one really I needed an answer to. 'Can I trust this guy next to me, enough to sleep in a vulnerable state next to him?' I mean, he seemed all sunshines and cupcakes so I guess I can trust him. I mean, he managed to gain Christians trust enough to bring him here, so I guess I'll trust him for once.

??:??PM

I opened my eyes, to be greeted with Christian's face, and him flicking my forehead. I must've fallen asleep. Huh. I slowly turned my neck around— Agh. It hurts since I was in one position for too long. Probably. I closed my eyes again, groggily. I turned to Christian.

"What do you want?" I asked, half asleep.

 "Wake up."

"Why? Ugh. ." I groaned.

"It's 6pm." He said, walking away. I yawned, rubbing my eyes. For a second, I stretched my arms and got up. Immediately, I fell back down onto the couch. I forgot about my leg.

"Dang it. ." I muttered. I glanced over to the side, seeing Christian there with Maverick.

I pushed myself up again, this time more cautiously.

I limped, but managed to walk better since it wasn't a broken bone or so. I slowly walked over to the kitchen, rummaging through the fridge for something to eat.

My eyes landed on some snacks that were there, but they all looked. . old. So instead, I walked over to the counter, sitting down on one of the swivel chairs there. I could hear Christian and Maverick talking.

"Yeah, I actually have two sisters, we're triplets." Maverick said, in his usual cheerful tone.

Such brightness kills me.

He emanates all of it.

"Oh, I'm an only child. ." blah blah blah

Not interested in his family. I sighed. What am I supposed to do now?

I approached Christian still limping. He turned to me.

"Should we continue the search? There's only one building left." I suggested. My leg didn't bother me much, so I didn't mind. He nodded. Without any more words, I grabbed my bat and was set.

"Hold on. What about your leg? It needs to heal."

Maverick looked at us slightly confused.

"What happened to your leg?" He asked curiously.

I chuckled awkwardly. "Nothing too serious. And I can walk just fine." I replied to both Maverick and Christian. Maverick smiled at me.

"I'll stay back. . then, I guess." He mumbled to us. And so, we left. The building was quiet, dead silent. We called for the elevator, as it opened we saw. . It was her!? Yes, it was Ruby.

Wait. What's going on?

"Ruby?!" I yelled.

I went up to her, and dragged her out of the elevator before it closed.

She was in shock, but she seemed to be in bad condition.

What do I mean? Well blood splattered on her clothes, nose bleed, a wound on her forearm and she was holding a steel pipe. And she also didn't have her hair up, it was messy.

She didn't say anything, but she dropped the steel pipe, and hugged me. I smiled softly, she must've been so scared, but I knew she could handle herself.

She pulled back, and looked at Christian and smiled. Christian seemed happy too, I mean. . obviously.

"I've missed you guys. ." She said.

"Why don't we go back to the other building? You need proper treatment." She nodded, and we started walking back to the building.

Well, so much for searching the last building.

Once we got to the room, I entered. Blueberry hair, he seemed. . . Nervous?

He hid something behind his back, and smiled at us. I ignored him, rolling my eyes.

"Who is this?" Both ruby and maverick spoke at the same time, same words.

"Ruby, this is maverick. Maverick, this is Ruby." They both looked at each other like they were sworn enemies. Ruby ignored him, so did Maverick. Do they know each other. .? Whatever. Me and Christian brought ruby to the room.

Christian left, and me and ruby were left in the room. I started to tend to her wound, and cleaned her nosebleed. I gave her my jacket for now, until we can get to the car for more clothes.

"Where's... Nicole?" She asked.

"Well. . how do I put this? He. . . Also got taken. We don't know by whom, but we came here because this was the only hint of where he could be."

"O-Oh.." she drooped, upset. I can't blame her. I was upset too.

"It'll be fine, trust me. We'll find him, okay?" I reassured her. She smiled, and nodded.

The rest of the night, me and Ruby were just catching up,

and apparently she was captured by a Dude, who was being threatened by a human, who'd apparently kill him if he didn't do as said.

you hear all kinds of strange things, this is the zombie apocalypse.. afterall. I told her about Maverick and we continued talking for a while, maybe 2-3 hours. It's now 9pm, and ruby fell asleep. She said she ate something, so she wasn't hungry. Once I exited the room, Maverick was asleep on the couch with his phone on his chest.

Christian was sitting near the counter on those spinny chairs. He was eating something and on his phone. I don't really know what he was doing. Moreover, what he could do, but I didn't pay much attention. I also want to get some rest. As for tomorrow, I don't really have any plans.

It'd probably just include searching the last building and maybe to the next street, just to make sure we don't miss Nicole in a building. .

I made myself to the second bedroom, and laid myself down.

There were two beds in the second bedroom, so Christian would probably end up sleeping on the other bed. That's none of my concerns though.

I slowly started to drift off to sleep, all the past events of today replaying in my head.

Luckily, we actually found Ruby.

But I still couldn't go to sleep at peace. Nicole was still out there, god knows where and with who. I was glad we found Ruby, but I can't be bothered by this more. He was alone.
