I woke up to faint streams of sunlight peeking through the seams of my new tent.
I was quite a bit anxious about what would happen today.
Today was no ordinary day, it was the day the clan would gather to learn of the changes that would shape our new reality.
I sat up and took a deep breath. Outside I could hear faint voices as the settlement started to stir.
I ran my fingers over the hilt of the miniature sword, which I still kept close by. Soon, I would be given another weapon—a leader's sword—one I had to show that I deserved.
"Lady Mia, are you ready to get dressed?"
Jamila's soft voice called from the foot of my bed.
She had carried in a cot for herself in the night as she would now be a permanent resident as a personal attendant.
Ayesha sat up on her bed and rubbed her eyes, Abu was still softly snoring.
"Yes, I will get ready now."
Jamila pulled a new set of tan robes from god knows where.
I glance at it askance and then look at her.
