"Well, until we get their response then." Thalric finally said. He rose from his seat, the other councilmen following suit with stiff postures and silent disapproval clinging to them. "We must leave now, Alpha." They bowed perfunctorily before sweeping out.
As the door shut behind them, Kade exhaled a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. The room was suddenly quieter, heavier. He took a step forward, shoulders taut, and turned to his Alpha. "She cannot do this," Kade said.
"She can," Lucas countered easily, leaning back in his chair as if the matter were already settled. "And she will win."
"How are you so sure?"
Lucas's grin returned. "Because, I will train her myself." He said it with relish.
"Alpha?" Kade's stomach sank. The thought of May under Lucas's command—May, who had just begun to trust herself—made his insides twist. Lucas was merciless, brutal, unmatched. What he called training, most would call cruelty.
