Kade's breathing turned ragged.
"You are crazy." He could hardly look at her—this fragile, stubborn human who was somehow braver than half the wolves he'd fought beside. His chest hurt with it, the knowledge that he might have to watch her fall, and that he could do nothing to stop it without dishonoring the very courage he admired.
May smiled then. She reached for him, her hands sliding across his chest, wrapping herself around him as if she could hold his breaking heart together. Her cheek pressed against him, soft against the tension locked in his muscles. "I am your crazy," she murmured against his skin.
Kade closed his eyes and held her, his arms tightening until he could feel every line of her body against his. His fingers drifted up, to trace the mark he had burned into her neck with teeth and soul.
