Kade turned sharply to his alpha. His eyes pleaded, his whole body a shield between May and a destiny she didn't fully grasp. "She cannot do it, Alpha," he said through gritted teeth.
Lucas cocked his head, eyes glittering. "Looks like your mate has more balls than you do, Kade." The jab cut clean.
May's lips twitched despite the seriousness of the moment. A wild laugh bubbled up inside her at the way Lucas had so casually emasculated Kade. She glanced at her mate's thunderous scowl and whispered just loud enough for him to hear, "I mean… he's not entirely wrong."
Kade shot her a glare so heated it promised punishment later.
