"What does it mean, mated to me?" She held his eyes with defiance, daring him to retreat behind that invisible wall he always built.
Kade's throat worked, the truth clawing its way out despite his better judgment. He wanted to say everything: how every moment near her burned, how the thought of losing her hollowed him out, how Kingsley's claim over her made his wolf roar with murderous rage. But he swallowed it all down, choking on his restraint.
