Lara stared at the portrait again. The lines of the face, the calm power, even the shape of the eyes, it was Thornak's face in another time.
Draven continued. "There are letters… records… that show something more. You and Alistair grew close. Very close. Many believed the two of you would marry. Some notes even suggest he asked for your hand."
He paused.
"More than that," Draven said gently. "Some believe Alistair was your fated partner in your past life and also the father of your children. Sadly some records have been destroyed."
Lara lifted her hand slowly and touched the edge of the old frame. The moment her fingers brushed the portrait, a sharp breath escaped her lips.
The room vanished.
In an instant, she was somewhere else.
She sat beside a quiet river, its surface shining under the midday sun. The water flowed gently, brushing against smooth stones. Birds sang in the trees above, and a soft breeze played with her golden hair.
