"Lara, stop!" the Duke shouted.
But she kept walking until she stood in front of the water.
The creature let out a low sound.
Lara slowly raised her hand.
And the moonfire began to roll.
The Leviac reacted at once.
Its pale eyes widened, and its long tendrils lifted fully, pointing directly at her. The creature lowered its huge head, the cracks along its body glowing faint silver in response to the light in her palm.
The knights behind her froze.
Even the Duke stared in disbelief.
The Leviac let out a low, rumbling sound, the same sound it had made for Neriah centuries ago.
Lara took another step into the shallow water, her hand still glowing moonfire.
She walked closer. She felt no fear, only a strange pull, as if something inside her knew this creature, knew how to handle it.
The Leviac lifted its head slightly, then lowered it again, bringing its massive face close to the water's surface in front of her.
It didn't attack her. It only stood waiting.
