Chapter 76 - 73

"Yuta, you passed the examination to become the captain of the Kido Corps."

Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni turned to Chojiro Sasakibe. "Go and report to Central 46."

"Yes!"

Chojiro responded promptly.

Originally, the Secret Mobile Team and the Onmitsukidō existed independently of the Gotei 13 and were not under Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni's jurisdiction.

Their ties grew closer when the Commander-in-Chief of the Secret Mobile Team also began serving concurrently as the captain of the Second Division. Though it was said to be concurrent, in practice, it was closer to nobles extending influence into the Gotei 13 itself.

In truth, the so-called Secret Mobile Team operated as the nobles' blade and the Central 46's tool to eliminate internal threats. If any Shinigami posed even the slightest threat to noble interests, false charges would be concocted-betrayal of the Soul Society, murder of peers-and that person would be swiftly executed by the Secret Mobile Team.

These internal punishments were often far harsher than anything administered externally.

To the nobility, retaining power came before the safety of Soul Society itself, even above threats from Hollows or the Quincy.

Even now, the Secret Mobile Team functioned as an assassination and surveillance agency serving the Central 46 and the noble families. Its subdivisions-like the Punishment Force and Internal Affairs-had long performed countless covert missions for their noble masters.

Likewise, the Kido Corps also remained independent of the Gotei 13.

Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni had no authority to issue orders to the Great Oni Priest, nor could he determine who would take the position.

However, after this assessment, Yuta's mastery of Kido had proven sufficient to qualify him as captain of the Kido Corps.

"In that case, I'll take my leave," Yuta said calmly.

Chojiro led him toward Central 46.

Dressed in formal attire, Chojiro's Western-style suit and neatly groomed hair and beard reflected his disciplined demeanor as he walked steadily ahead.

Yuta observed him and remarked, "You and Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni seem to work well together."

Chojiro gave a small nod. "Indeed…"

Looking into the distance, he appeared reflective.

"When I chose to follow Genryusai-sama over two thousand years ago, I became his lieutenant not to learn from him-but to make up for what he could not manage himself."

"When he preferred Japanese food, I selected Western meals. When he leaned into tradition, I studied foreign culture. When he drank tea, I cultivated the plants."

"I didn't ask him to teach me anything. That way, I could better assist him without overlapping his strengths."

"I always knew I'd be no match for him in what he was good at. So I focused on the areas he overlooked-to assist him and support his legacy."

Yuta looked out across the horizon. "It wasn't just you enabling Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni-he enabled you too. You made each other stronger. You're both irreplaceable. In his eyes... I'm sure you hold meaning beyond duty."

Chojiro said nothing in response, but his expression spoke volumes. The admiration and loyalty he held for Yamamoto were etched into his features. That bond had shaped his entire life.

Soon, the pair reached Central 46.

From the shadows not far behind, Aizen Sosuke followed in silence.

Since Aizen had already executed the former Central 46 members in secret, there were no complications in the appointment process. The decision to install Yuta as captain moved forward without resistance.

Yuta was granted residence along with the authority, staff, and facilities associated with the Kido Corps.

Chojiro was surprised by how smoothly the appointment was confirmed. Central 46 had accepted Yuta's qualifications with little deliberation.

There was no arguing-the current Central 46 felt different. Somehow... softer and easier to deal with.

As Chojiro glanced around and confirmed the elders were alive and well, his concerns faded, and he took his leave.

Now, only Yuta and Aizen remained outside the chamber of Central 46.

Yuta tossed the captain's badge lightly in one hand and looked toward Aizen. "Perhaps your approach has its merits."

Pushing up his glasses, Aizen responded coolly. "Innovation requires fire, not gentleness."

Despite his composed tone, his words stood in stark contrast to his restraint.

"In the past, both Hibiki Kuchiki and Kenpachi Kariyashiki made the nobility tremble-not because of defiance, but because they were too strong," Aizen said. "Those who play by the rules dictated by nobles will always be bound by them."

"But you and I... we aren't the same."

He smiled faintly. "Even if the entire Soul Society stands against us-as long as we're united-what could they hope to do?"

"By the way," Aizen added, "I'm curious about that technique you used earlier-Limitless."

Yuta returned his smile. "Would you like to feel what 'Blue' is like?"

"It's not impossible."

"Let me tell you a story. Do you believe that no matter how fast you are, you could be outpaced by a turtle?" Yuta asked.

"How is that possible?" Aizen raised his brow. If it had come from anyone else, he would've dismissed it immediately. Because it came from Yuta, he waited to hear the reasoning.

"Imagine there is a man and a turtle," Yuta explained, drawing on the ground with a stick-one figure trailing behind the other.

"The turtle moves ten meters per second. The man moves one hundred meters per second."

"The turtle starts out one hundred meters ahead."

"When the man reaches the turtle's starting point, the turtle has already moved forward ten meters."

"When he runs that ten meters, the turtle has moved again-and so on, endlessly. Technically, the man is always behind."

"In principle, the faster party must always reach the position the lead held before. And by that time, the lead has moved forward again. So the pursuer is always behind."

As Aizen processed the paradox, his expression tightened with deep thought.

Yuta stood up and smiled. "Sounds ridiculous, right? In practice, infinite division isn't possible."

"True," Aizen agreed. The logic made sense, but it contradicted reality. He had the strange impression that Yuta's thoughts existed on some entirely different plane of understanding.

"If you think it's pure illusion," Yuta said, "wait and see how 'Limitless' brings illusion into reality."

He raised one hand with ease.

And in the next moment, Aizen Sosuke witnessed the impossible.
