Chapter 139: A One-Sided Beatdown
Ryu and Floragato had just turned to leave when they found themselves surrounded on the beach by a sea of people and their Pokémon, all their eyes filled with anticipation.
"It seems the trend of battling has started to become popular here," Ryu noted. In the Hoenn region, people were more interested in a Pokémon's appearance and flair.
"Meow..." Floragato bared her teeth, feeling anxious.
"Don't worry," Ryu said, stroking her ears. "They just want to get beaten up."
The first to rush forward was a teenager. "Sceptile! I'm Joey from Ever Grande City, and my goal is to become the Alliance's Chief Prosecutor! Please accept my challenge!" He threw a Poké Ball. "I choose you, Rattata!"
"Ra...?" A Rattata appeared, looked up at the 3.4-meter-tall Sceptile, and met his cold, dead-fish eyes.
"Go, Rattata! Use Tackle!"
The Rattata looked at its trainer as if he were insane, then charged forward with all its might.
Slap.
Ryu casually swept his tail, batting the Rattata back like a golf ball.
"Rattata! You've worked hard!" Joey cried, recalling his fainted Pokémon.
"Too ugly! Step back!" an arrogant voice rang out. A young man with spiky blue hair stepped forward. "I am Jet, and I will be your opponent."
"Oh? From the Dragon Tamer Clan," Ryu grinned, smelling the faint, familiar scent of Dragonite on him.
"Go, Charizard!"
"Roar!" a fierce Charizard emerged from the Poké Ball. It looked at the dazed Sceptile, grew angry at being ignored, and let out a mighty roar.
"What are you yelling about?" Ryu looked down at the Charizard, whose head only reached his belly. The sense of oppression was immense.
"Charizard, fly!" Jet commanded.
The Charizard soared into the sky, feeling invincible. He looked down, expecting to see a crowd of awestruck faces, but everyone, including his own trainer, was staring blankly at the space above him.
He couldn't laugh for long. He felt a strange sound behind him. Buzzing...
Bang!
Before he could turn, a flash of electricity from a [Thunder Punch] struck him on the head. He went from being suspended high in the air to a red meteor crashing into the beach.
Boom!
As he poked his head out of the crater, a crystal-clear [Energy Ball] shot from the sky and knocked him back in. The next moment, a green shadow drilled into the pit.
Crackling!
A dazzling electric light flashed. Two seconds later, Ryu walked out, shaking his wrist. The Charizard lay unconscious, twitching occasionally from the paralysis.
The battle hadn't lasted a minute. It was a one-sided beatdown. Charizard had flown up, and Ryu had used Extreme Speed to surpass him, buffed himself with Hone Claws and Swords Dance, and then delivered a critical hit. The trainer had been too stunned to give a single command. It was a complete and utter rout.
