Chapter 138: We Will Meet Again
Sitting behind Officer Jenny, Kael Elm stared blankly at the receding green figure, his eyes filled with an academic's excitement.
"Stop, Arcanine," Jenny sighed, seeing that further pursuit was hopeless.
"Woof..." The proud Pokémon stopped, its confidence shaken. This was the first time it had ever been outrun.
"Don't be so discouraged," Kael offered. "With roughly the same level, without using any moves, there are basically very few Pokémon in this world that can outrun a Sceptile in a forest."
"Not even the Dragon Tamer Clan's Dragonite?" Jenny asked.
"The feeling of a Dragonite's speed comes from a rare move called 'Extreme Speed.' Without it, their speed isn't actually that fast," Kael explained. "This is the first time I've seen such a perfect Sceptile. From his vibrant colors and physical characteristics, he is clearly still very young. To be able to grow to such an extent at his age... can you imagine how large he could become in a hundred years?"
As a pioneer on the path of Pokémon breeding, he knew how extraordinary that Sceptile was.
"I've decided," Kael said, his eyes filled with a new light. "My research topic. From now on, my topic will be 'Pokémon Breeding and Pokémon Eggs'! To breed such an excellent Pokémon, you have to start from the genetic level!"
On a beach on the outermost side of Scorpion Island, Lapras had finally reunited with her family. A total of nine Lapras were now gathered, including the little one.
"Mew~" The baby Lapras threw herself into her mother's embrace, crying profusely as she recounted the grievances and adventures of the past month, not forgetting to mention the friends she had made and the help she had received.
"Mew," Lapras's mother, a gentle creature over three meters tall, quickly thanked Ryu and Floragato. It was clear the little Lapras was the spoiled baby of the family.
'I raised her well,' Ryu thought, looking at the proud, tearless Floragato beside him. He felt his disciplined upbringing was far superior.
"?" Floragato felt his gaze and a question mark appeared above her head. She looked at her best friend's coddled treatment and couldn't help but feel a little envious.
"Mew?" Lapras's mother came over and asked Ryu if there was anywhere he wanted to go. It was the only way they could repay his kindness.
"Hmm... then please take me to the city on the opposite side," he said, pointing to the metropolis of Cherrygrove. His current physique was too large for the little Lapras to carry safely.
"Mew!" The family's patriarch, a massive Lapras over four and a half meters tall, nodded without hesitation, signaling for Ryu to get on his back.
"Meow," Floragato said, jumping onto the little Lapras's back. The two best friends wanted to have one last chat before parting.
"Gligar~" The Gligar on the shore waved goodbye, a few of the more emotional ones with teary eyes.
"Bye bye~"
"Meow~"
"Mew~"
The sea route wasn't long. They reached a beach in Cherrygrove City in just five minutes, stunning the people there, who quickly took out their cameras to record the rare sight.
"Floragato, let's go," Ryu said.
"Meow," she nodded and jumped down from the little Lapras's back.
"Mew..." The little Lapras looked at them with reluctance. In her heart, they were already like family.
"Go back," Ryu said, stroking her head. "This world is only so big. As long as we are all still alive, we will meet again someday."
"Meow," Floragato said, turning her back to her friend and waving casually, though her drooping tail betrayed her sadness.
"Mew woo~" The little Lapras decided to say goodbye with a song. It was the cheerful sea shanty she had learned from Tom and Corphish, but sung with the Lapras family's naturally sorrowful voice, it sounded heartbreakingly sad.
Floragato quietly turned her head, her eyes turning red as she watched her friend slowly recede into the distance.
