Chapter 105: Rebirth, a Gift and a Punishment
The Hoenn region. It was a land known for its "abundant destiny," with a rich topography ranging from tropical rainforests to deserts. But its most striking feature was its vast water area, which was almost equal in size to the continent itself.
On an island at the easternmost part of the region was a city called Ever Grande. Established more than a thousand years ago, its major development began six hundred years prior when the ruling Devon Empire discovered the distant Johto region. Today, the city was famous for its flowers and its international port, which could reach any region in the world.
Recently, a rumor had been circulating in Ever Grande City. A trainer claimed to have seen a green, onion-like Pokémon appear out of thin air, leave an egg in the surrounding forest, and then vanish. Pokémon doctors speculated that this could only be Celebi, the legendary "God of the Forest."
With this news, the Ever Grande Forest suddenly became lively, with countless people searching for the mysterious egg.
At the top of the forest's giant, central tree, a cute, onion-headed creature held a small green egg, its eyes full of affection. This was Celebi. She had picked up this egg from another era—a long, long time ago. At that time, she had felt a mysterious energy, followed it, and found this egg. The energy was weak, but given time, it could accumulate to a level even more powerful than her own.
But the era where the egg originated was full of war and danger. To ensure the little one could grow up safely, Celebi had brought it to this relatively peaceful and quiet time.
"Bi~"
Celebi gently kissed the egg, and a verdant energy flowed into it. Then, she rubbed her hands together, and a seed appeared. She kissed the seed as well, and a mysterious ripple appeared on its surface.
"Alas~ I'm so tired. Do you think that person was lying to us?" a human voice suddenly echoed from below.
Celebi shivered and immediately dove into a light blue vortex. Having traveled through time for countless years, she knew how terrifying humans could be. Only this era was good—the great people who created peace had not yet died, and the villains of the future had not yet been born.
She had to leave. As long as she was here, the baby in the egg would never know a peaceful life. Before disappearing, she integrated the blessed seed into the egg, offering her final gift.
Warm breezes swept through the forest. It was spring, the season of recovery. The trees and flowers swayed, as if the entire forest were joyful, welcoming the birth of its new child.
If I can't see my family and friends again in the next life, then is reincarnation with memories a gift, or a punishment?
Ryu felt that he had slept for a very, very long time. Perhaps he would rather have just died, to not be trapped in the maze of memories for an eternity.
"Hoo..."
Opening his eyes again, he found himself in the center of a massive forest, atop a tree so high that jumping down would certainly mean death.
"How am I supposed to get down?"
He walked to the edge and looked down, feeling a strange sensation on the soles of his feet. He looked down and immediately confirmed what kind of Pokémon he was.
A Treecko.
"Personal Panel." He casually glanced at it, and his expression immediately became strange.
[Treecko]
[Potential]: Purple
[Level]: Lv. 1
[Type]: Grass
[Ability]: Unburden
[Height]: 0.25 m
[Weight]: 2.5 kg
[Held Items]: Mystic Water, Dragon Fang, Focus Band, Miracle Seed (Time Ripple)
[Moves]: Pound, Leer, Recover (Inherited), Extreme Speed (Inherited)
He knew Treecko well, but what the heck was with this "Purple" potential? According to his theory, Treecko's base stat total of 310 should only be "Blue." "Purple" meant a base stat total of over 400.
Then he saw the held items. He had kept his three items from his past life and gained a new one: a Miracle Seed with a "Time Ripple" suffix. This was the power of Celebi.
"So... a Celebi was taking care of me," Ryu deduced. The blessing had enhanced his base potential, given him the Miracle Seed, and even taught him a move that the Treecko line couldn't normally learn: Recover.
"If I had this move in my past life, that would have been great," he sighed.
