Chapter 104: Generations
In Year 20 of the Royal Dragon Calendar, Queen Liz, at the age of 38, announced her abdication, handing the throne to her 18-year-old niece, Ryuuki. Subsequently, Liz, accompanied by her Pokémon and Hestia, left the capital and was never seen by the public again.
Queen Ryuuki, along with a man named Koga of the Dama family, established a Department of Legal Affairs and began enacting laws to protect Pokémon. Their shared ideal was for humans and Pokémon to coexist peacefully. If one generation couldn't complete it, then two. If two couldn't, then ten. They would see it through.
Time flew like an arrow. 60 years passed. In Year 80 of the calendar, a new war was brewing with an archipelago to the south. That same year, the 98-year-old Founding Queen Liz returned to the capital one last time. The next day, she left alone, leaning on a walking stick, and never returned.
Another three hundred years passed. The relationship between humans and Pokémon greatly improved, but conflict between humans themselves became even more intense. The Royal Dragon Kingdom fell into a devastating three-way war that dragged even the mighty overlords of Mt. Silver into its grasp. The endless smoke of war and the aura of death finally angered the two Legendary Pokémon of the region.
Ho-Oh, the golden bird, spewed flames that burned everything, while Lugia, the silver bird, unleashed cyclones that destroyed all in their path. The war stopped, but the Royal Dragon Kingdom was also destroyed.
The survivors of the Dragon Tamer Clan met the displaced Dragonite from the now-ruined Mt. Silver. One side saw the other's red and blue hair; the other saw the first's chubby bellies. They joined hands and, around a memorial flowerbed, built a new paradise, unwilling to participate in any more wars.
History, it seemed, had returned to its original trajectory. If there was any difference, it was that the relationship between humans and Pokémon had improved several hundred years earlier.
In the end, who was the winner of that ancient war? Those who followed Liz believed it was all the ordinary people and Pokémon of Johto and Kanto. But from the final outcome, it seemed their sacrifices had not changed the fundamental nature of the world.
Kingdoms were built and destroyed. Wars started and ended, repeating endlessly.
It was not until the end that seven great families, seven pairs of partners, emerged to finally pacify the turbulent world.
Raticate and the Dama family.
Dragonite and the Dragon Tamer Clan.
Beedrill and the Sakaki clan.
Eevee and the Oak family.
Butterfree and the Silph family.
Arcanine and the Jenny clan.
Blissey and the Joy clan.
With their combined efforts, the organization known as the Pokémon League was established on the Indigo Plateau at the peak of Mt. Silver. The laws of the former Royal Dragon Kingdom were unearthed, revised, and put into use again.
The Johto and Kanto regions, after countless calamities, finally ushered in an era of complete peace.
