I had just laid down, finally getting a moment to rest, when a knock came at the door. A heavy sigh escaped me as I sat up, wondering who could possibly want something from me now. Opening the door, I was surprised to see Joyce standing there. Her eyes gleamed with something I couldn't quite place—anger, perhaps?
"What do you want this time?" I asked, though part of me already knew. Joyce never came by unless she had something to say, and it was never good.
She didn't waste any time. "You," she spat, not even waiting for an invitation to come inside. "You're the reason Xavier is acting like this. You're the one responsible for his cruelty." Her words were sharp, venomous, and completely unexpected. Even if I had heard that before, I could tell that something had happened between them and she was looking for someone to blame.
