As I stood by the window, my mind replayed the conversation with Kyle. His suggestion had merit—bringing Zara to the gathering could help secure alliances, and in this world, appearances mattered. But there was a catch: I knew Zara wouldn't comply so easily. She was stubborn. The idea of her agreeing to something like this without resistance was almost laughable.
Still, it was the best course of action.
"Bring Zara to me," I commanded, my voice sharp.
Kyle didn't flinch. He nodded and left without another word, his steps quick and efficient. I had no doubt that he'd deliver the message, but what Zara's response would be... that was another question entirely. My thoughts swirled as I waited, trying to figure out how best to handle her inevitable resistance.
Minutes passed, and then the door opened, Kyle returned, looking a little more tense than when he'd left.
