Chapter 95 - The Old Bee Headmaster

In the original story, the diary Horcrux was hidden in the Malfoy family's home. However, a large-scale Ministry of Magic crackdown on Dark magic objects forced Lucius Malfoy to take the diary out of the manor.

While he was fretting over how to evade the Ministry's search, he clashed with Arthur Weasley, and the diary was subsequently slipped into Ginny's school bag.

This was how the Horcrux accidentally entered Hogwarts to wreak havoc, leading to the events of the Chamber of Secrets.

Knowing this part of the original plot, Victor had secretly checked Ginny's belongings at the start of the school year and found no sign of the diary Horcrux, so he thought Hogwarts could be peaceful for at least a short time.

But he didn't expect the first victim to show up just a month into the school year. Originally, he had planned to let the Basilisk sleep and use it as an end-of-year exam question for the young Ravenclaws, but since it had already woken up, he might as well just go down to the Chamber of Secrets and capture it.

Also, regardless of how the diary Horcrux entered Hogwarts, he had to figure out who had this cursed thing, or it would be a disaster sooner or later.

So, with that thought, Victor erased the bloody words on the wall, then used spatial magic to bring Filch and Mrs. Norris to Dumbledore's office.

"Good evening, Professor Dumbledore!" Victor greeted the figure hunched over the Pensieve.

"Good evening, Mr. Dreyar!" Dumbledore heard the familiar voice, looked up from the Pensieve, and slowly turned around. But when he saw the person and cat lying on the floor, his calm expression instantly became a little serious.

"It seems something bad has happened in our castle again! What has happened to our dear caretaker and his cat?"

"One of Voldemort's Horcruxes woke up a Basilisk, and they were petrified by a curse," Victor said. He walked over to a tea table, naturally poured himself a cup of hot cocoa, and continued, "Harry heard some sounds that others couldn't hear—Parseltongue!"

"Is that so? That's not surprising! As a Horcrux, it would naturally inherit some of Voldemort's abilities." Dumbledore heard Victor's words and instantly connected this to Voldemort's soul. "But what did you mean by a Horcrux and a Basilisk? If such a dangerous magical creature was lurking around Hogwarts, there would be some kind of warning."

"The Basilisk is not from outside. It has always been sleeping in the Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets. It's just that one of Voldemort's Horcruxes sneaked into Hogwarts and woke it up!" Victor replied.

"There really is a Chamber of Secrets?!" Dumbledore frowned deeply.

"Professor, you've been hunched over the Pensieve for so long, and you didn't notice anything?"

"..." Dumbledore fell silent for a moment, then slowly said, "You're right. Ever since you told me about the Horcruxes, I've been searching through my old memories for clues about them, and I have indeed noticed some things. In 1943, I was still the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, and Tom Riddle was in his fifth year. I remember that year, his excellence and performance were simply unparalleled! All the professors at Hogwarts, including myself, thought he was a perfect student. But there is no such thing as a perfect person in this world. If there is, it's because they are deliberately presenting themselves as perfect to hide something unspeakable."

Victor took a sip of hot cocoa and interjected. "Yes, Myrtle Warren, a Muggle-born girl, was found murdered one day in the girls' lavatory on the second floor. Looking back now, the way she died was exactly the same as Filch—her eyes were wide open, and both were filled with boundless fear."

Dumbledore furrowed his brows, combining all the information he had gathered over the years, a hint of regret in his eyes.

"Now it seems that the death of Myrtle Warren was very likely an evil deed committed by Tom. He sacrificed the life of that girl to create a Horcrux. Perhaps even Hagrid being expelled was a setup he orchestrated. It's useless to talk about all this old history now, Professor! Even if you present the truth to the Ministry of Magic, they will most likely find various excuses to save face. It won't be that easy for you to clear Hagrid's name." Victor finished his hot cocoa, put the cup back on the tea table, and said, "I'll take care of the Basilisk. I'll also help investigate the Horcrux matter, but you also need to use your power as the Headmaster to help find where that diary is."

"A diary Horcrux? How do you know?" Dumbledore's face showed a hint of confusion when he heard that Victor knew the exact item that was causing trouble.

The last time with the Ravenclaw diadem could be explained as a coincidence, but where did he get this information from?

Of course, Victor wasn't going to tell him that he was a transmigrator. So he answered bluntly, "You don't need to worry about how I know. Voldemort's name is written on the cover of that diary. You just need to follow that clue. Hogwarts is only so big, so it shouldn't be hard to find. And if someone is being controlled by a Horcrux, they should also have some abnormal behavior."

"Alright, I'll have people keep an eye out…"

"Then I'll leave Filch and Mrs. Norris to you. I hope Professor Sprout's Mandrakes can grow a little faster, or those young Gryffindors who sneak around at night might be deprived of their fun for a long time."

With that, Victor prepared to leave the office, but Dumbledore immediately called out to him.

"Victor, there's one thing I want to confirm with you! Did you tell the Ravenclaw students to skip Lockhart's Defence Against the Dark Arts class?"

"Yes, I did!" Victor didn't hide it and nodded directly.

"It really was you!" Dumbledore said with a bit of a headache. "A few days ago, Severus complained to me that the Ravenclaw students were getting special treatment and that the students who came to the Defence Against the Dark Arts class were all stiff clones. Skipping class is a serious violation of the rules! And if Ravenclaw collectively skips class, the impact on the other professors and students will be very bad. So I want to ask you, can you have the Ravenclaw students go back to class normally?"

"No!" As soon as Dumbledore finished speaking, Victor firmly refused with dead fish eyes. It was a good thing the old bee didn't bring this up. Now that he did, Victor was furious. After a month of teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts to the young Ravenclaws, he was getting angrier and angrier.

First, their fundamentals was extremely poor. They only had a half-baked understanding of many Dark creatures, which meant they were practically idiots.

Second, their application of knowledge was too rigid. They didn't know how to use the knowledge from the books to cast spells flexibly. For example, when the third-year Ravenclaws were dealing with a troll, they liked to use spells like the Incarcerous or the Petrificus Totalus charm directly.

That almost drove Victor mad.

The most terrifying thing about a troll was its immense physical strength, and trolls are magical creatures with high magic resistance, so these spells were basically useless against it.

So the best way to deal with a troll was to target its weakness. A troll has low intelligence and a fragile head. All you have to do is cast an Engorgio on an obstacle at its feet to knock it down. This would give you at least seven or eight seconds to attack its head. At that point, what kind of spell couldn't be used?

But even with such a simple principle, the young Ravenclaws panicked when they saw the troll's massive body, then they were affected by the stench on the troll, and they used spells indiscriminately.

Thinking of this, Victor was filled with rage, and flames of resentment began to appear in his eyes. He took a deep breath, then shouted, "Professor, since you brought up the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, I might as well have a little talk with you about it! You old bee! Don't get me started! It's been two years! Two years! What kind of worthless professors have you been hiring for Defence Against the Dark Arts?!

"The last one was a two-faced creature, and this time it's a fraud. I even heard from a third-year student that the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor in their first year was someone you found from Azkaban. I later learned from Hagrid that this so-called professor was actually a magical creature smuggler who got into trouble because he went to the Forbidden Forest to find magical creatures on his own.

"At this rate, are you going to hire a disabled person to teach the students next term? If you had just hired a halfway decent one, there wouldn't have been so many problems! Do you know what it's like when I teach the Ravenclaw students combat class? The entire third year of young Ravenclaws were wiped out by a single werewolf in five minutes! Five minutes! How are you even the Headmaster?!

"What's this nonsense about Voldemort's curse? Why don't you fight it yourself? I'm telling you, if the students are incompetent, it's because you, the Headmaster, are incompetent. If a student from Hogwarts gets killed by a Dark wizard one day, it will be because you, the Headmaster, are a coward!"

Victor seized the opportunity to unleash a torrent of insults at Dumbledore. The portraits of the previous headmasters on the wall were all dumbfounded, as they had never seen a student dare to talk to the Headmaster like this!

And naturally, Dumbledore was also left speechless. Because he was well aware that over the past decade, especially after Voldemort's reign of terror, the students at Hogwarts had fallen far behind in Defence Against the Dark Arts compared to before.

The previous Minister of Magic, Millicent Bagnold, had complained to him that the quality of Hogwarts graduates had declined greatly, and the magical skills of many newcomers were a mess compared to before.

First, because of Voldemort's widespread terrorist activities twenty years ago, Dumbledore, in order to prevent students from some of the pure-blood families from extensively studying Dark magic to strengthen Voldemort's forces, had directly reduced the curriculum of Defence Against the Dark Arts each year and moved many Dark magic books to the Restricted Section.

Second, because of Voldemort's curse, the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts was filled by a new person every year, which meant students couldn't get a coherent and systematic education.

In addition, Dumbledore, out of a sense of conscience, didn't dare to hire a more competent professor to teach the students, which led to a sharp decline in teaching quality.

Victor continued to vent his frustrations, and Dumbledore was extremely embarrassed. He raised his hand and scratched his head, then looked around, then patted his pocket as if he were looking for something. But in reality, there was nothing for him to look for. He was just trying to hide his embarrassment.
