Kyle stayed awake. His eyes glued to the ceiling. He didn't need sleep though he could sleep if he wanted to. Listening to Ashley's heartbeat, it had a peculiar rhythm that calmed him down.
Everything about the girl made him question who he was— Knowing himself. he should have abandoned her the minute he found out she was alive. He didn't need Ananke's opinion, yet Everytime he watched her...he didn't understand himself
Taking a deep breath he closed his eyes—he should probably sleep to stop himself from thinking of that fragile insufferable creature he has been forced to save the realms with.
The inn was dead silent— everyone had gone to bed, only the sound of crickets could be heard. The creaking of the floor board just outside their room door was loud enough to pique Kyle's attention.
He didn't move— just waited for whatever it was to make the first move. The door slowly creaked open and a figure floated inside.
Kyle opened his eyes, silver gaze locking onto the entity audacious enough to invade his room. A vengeful spirit. It hovered closer to Ashley, unaware of the mistake it had made.
His brows twitched, with a flick of his finger he could send her back to the underrealm —he was torn between letting the ghost take Ashley to find out if it was a much shorter way to go instead of journeying to the temple of dreams. He kept watch silently
Ashley was still fast asleep, she didn't notice the entity hovering over her with its mouth open wide about to suck her life force.
Sitting up—he decidee to let her live a little bit longer, since she intrigued him. He didn't want the one interesting thing he had to suddenly die— besides dead souls were utterly boring. And he assumed the vengeful ghost will simply try to drag to her into the underrealm not try to take her life force
He watched in confused, this had never happened—vengeful spirits don't do that.
Getting up from his bed, he slowly walked behind it making it stop— frozen in fear. the ghost twisted its head completely around to see the person behind it.
Seeing the brooding silver eyes, it quickly stepped back—backing up into the corner of the room, it knew all to well that Kyle wasn't to be messed with —even challenged. Baring it's rotten teeth. it climbed up to the top corner of the room to create as much distance between them.
Kyle cocked his head to the side bored as long as he was here it's not like it could harm her, he thought of going back to lay on his bed.
Ashley turned in her sleep. Kyle's eyes darted toward her. But it might be a problem if she woke up to see a ghost in the room. Thinking about his next move, the entity watched the way he stared at the her. Thinking the girl could be his weakness it leaped quickly to grab sleeping Ashley.
Waving his hand lazily, the entity flew back with enough force to break the wooden wall crashing to the ground
He frowned. why exactly did it think it could get past him like that?, walking towards the corner of the room where the entity curled up in fear. He wondered if he should send it back or just let it keep him company since he couldn't sleep.
"What should I do with you" he whispered, his silver eyes gazing down at the entity
Not aware that the impact on the wall woke Ashley up
"What are you doing" she said, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand
Turning to her "I thought you were asleep" he asked his brows drawn together
"Well...yes that was until I heard the crashing sound, is everything okay?" Ashley asked looking towards where she heard the sound coming from to see an almost broken wall, with someone crouched at the corner whimpering.
"Who is that?" She asked, turning her gaze to Kyle
"A vengeful spirit" he replied
"A vengeful spirit...how did it get here" she asked. more confused
"The veil is getting weaker" Kyle replied his gaze still locked on the ghost
Ashley's creased her brows, they really had to fix this problem quickly—she prayed her best friend was still okay.
Looking curiously at the entity, it didn't look like a vengeful spirit more like a little girl getting scolded for doing something bad. She expected it to be scary—causing chaos but it looked sorry and visibly shaken.
She started to feel bad for the entity "what are you going to do to her" she asked
"Probably send her back to the underrealm, or destroy her permanently. I'm still trying to decide" Kyle replied, his piercing gaze still on the spirit
"Meeeerrrccccyyy" it's raspy voice pleaded
Kyle watched it quietly, mercy?—when was the kast tike he geard that word
Ashley sat on her bed, glancing between Kyle and the entity "did it just beg for mercy?" She asked surprised it could talk
"It did" Kyle replied, his voice void of emotions
"Are you going to show it mercy?" She asked
"No"
"Meeeerrrccccyyy" it pleaded again
Ashley started to feel bad for the spirit. It was really shaken by the presence of Kyle—the thought of letting it go didn't seem like a crazy idea to her
"It didn't harm any of us, you could let it go" she suggested
Frowning Kyle glanced at her, how kind and naive can she be "it didn't harm any of us because I am here...if I let it go, it'll definitely harm someone"
"Oh" she said nodding in understanding
"No....hhhhaaaarrrrmmmm, meeeerrrccccyyy" it's raspy voice dragged on
"But it said it won't harm anyone" Ashley stated, getting down from her bed. walking towards the entity, in attempt to convince Kyle that the spirit won't harm anyone.
"Get out of there" Kyle commanded seeing Ashley walk towards the spirit
Ignoring him. Ashley thought perhaps she could reach out to the spirit—it was human afterall
Watching her go closer to it, his frown deepened "Ashley move away from the spirit" he said
Reaching out her to touch it, she turned to Kyle "why it doesn't look like it would hurt me"
The sight of a fresh soul close made it aggressive growling it launched towards Ashley
Seeing this Kyle pushed Ashley behind him before she could notice.
Summoning his scythe— He slashed the spirit destroying it completely
With the entity gone the room fell silent. Kyle stood with his scythe as tall as him in his hand. He didn't think he would need to use it—seeing her in danger alarmed him.
Staring at the corner where the ghost was—annoyed. wondering how she could be naive and reckless—he was starting to reconsider keeping her alive.
