The crowd outside the window didn't seem soo pleasant anymore. Ashley sat on the bed looking down on her hands her thumbs tugging on each other. How could she forget her bag?, what was she going to change into?.
"Is something wrong?" Kyle asked, his brow creasing with concern. He lingered in the doorway, having stepped out moments earlier to give orders, only to return and find his bride downcast, her mood unmistakeably changed
Ashley pressed her eyes shut, how was she supposed to tell him, she forgot her bag of clothes back at the shop, that was embarrassing and most of all what kind of person will he think she is—someone who easily forgets the smallest things. She wanted to slam her head on the wall real hard.
Walking to his bed, Kyle sat down leaning forward. His head cocked to the side "did you forget something?" He asked
'how was he always so on point' she thought, her eyes squeezed tighter, nodding slowly. She looked like a child about to get scolded
Letting out a deep sigh, he leaned back "what did you forget"
"My bag of clothes" she replied, her voice coming out as a whisper
"Your?" Kyle asked, turning his head to the side in attempt to hear her properly
"...bag of clothes" she said raising her voice a bit more—her head still lowered
Kyle turned his face to her, silently observing the way she sulked over something, she wasn't responsible for—at the shop when he saw her with the sack of clothes. He had already concluded that there was no way she was taking it with her. So he made her forget—seeing how sad she was over a forgotten sack of clothes, he considered going back to bring it
"I'm sorry...I'm not always this forgetful. We were in the heat of the moment and rushing to leave so—"
"It's fine" Kyle interrupted. she was rambling again
Ashley paused, slowly raising her head to look at him. She needed to see the expression on his face to know how fine it was—his expression was blank staring at the door like he was thinking of something
"Do you require that bag for anything important" he asked, turning his gaze back to her
"I don't have anything to change into" she replied
"Is that all?"
She nodded rapidly.
Taking a deep breath "I'll be back" walking out of the room
Ashley stared at the door wondering what he was going to do, was he going to go back to the shop?. He didn't look like the person who'd go through all that stress
A few minutes passed, Kyle came back with a small bag in his hand, stretching it towards Ashley "here....change into this. you don't need extra luggage for this journey. so I'll get you an outfit to change into at every stop"
"Thank you" Ashley said, taking the bag from him
Turning around he left the room to give her space to change. Taking a quick glance at the door—she opened the bag bringing out the cloth.
It was a white long sleeping gown. she guessed he thought she didn't need any thing more — she appreciated his effort to bring her something to change into. Quickly getting up she took off her outfut putting on the white gown— it felt oddly comfortable, really light like she was wearing half a piece of fabric—but the material wasn't transparent. she loved the feel of the fabric on her skin. Hugging herself she never wanted to take it off
Kyle walked in with a bowl of soup in his hand and bread in the other. Handing it to her "take eat" he said. He assumed she'd be hungry so he ordered the first thing he saw someone else eating.
Taking the food from his hand, she whispered "thank you" sitting on her bed
Sitting on his bed —Kyle watched her quietly while she ate. He wondered why humans had to survive on food. He never thought that he'd be taking care of a human. When all he wanted to do most often was to destroy the whole of humanity.
Shifting uncomfortable from his piercing gaze. She turned to him "aren't you going to eat" she asked, wondering why she was the only one eating.
"Primordials don't need to do mundane things" he replied blankly
She nodded slowly, her mouth forming an 'Ohhh'
"Not even a taste"
"Human food, taste like nothing to us" he replied coldly
Sensing that he was in no mood to talk she continued eating
"We will be leaving for the temple of dreams first thing tomorrow" Kyle said, breaking the silence
"The temple of dreams?" Ashley asked about to take a spoon of soup.
"The temple where the goddess of night used to be worshipped" he answered
"Used to?"
"Before the primordials fell into ruins—for ages after they created the human realm...they were worshipped as gods. Temples were built for them in each part of the world...but now they're all ruined forgotten and abandoned" Kyle said, trailing like it didn't concern him
"So all the temples of the primordials are forgotten" she said, finally done with the meal sitting in—her back resting on wooden wall
"Yes" he replied
Ashley watched him concerned, he was the last primordial still in existence. She wondered how lonely that could be, maybe that's why the goddess of fate chose a bride for him. She thought feeling sorry for him
The moon was high up in the starless sky—The town had gone to sleep. No one roamed the streets, everywhere had gone quiet.
"You should sleep" he said, turning to lay on the bed with his hand over his head
Doing the same, Ashley watched him silently—he felt alone, like there was this invisible wall he built to stop people from reaching him—for some reason she felt like she wanted to get through that wall. And hold him.
Slowly she drifted to sleep.
