Danzo barked urgently, already forming hand seals to summon a beast for coordinated attack. If Shisui's shadow clone reached the Uchiha Clan's compound with news, they were done for. The Uchiha would tear them apart to stop it. To prevent that, Shisui had to die—once he was gone, the clone would vanish too.
Chapter 64: Itachi's Mangekyō [Mid][Part 4]
[Summoning Technique – Mobaku!]
A massive summoned beast appeared beside Danzo. Its long nose inhaled slightly, creating a hurricane-force gust of wind.
"No, something's wrong!"
Yet at that moment, Danzo frowned. The air current caused by Mobaku had no effect on Shisui and his Susanoo whatsoever. Surprisingly, even the storm created by Mobaku's inhalation seemed to pass straight through Susanoo without resistance.
"Genjutsu? No, my chakra shows no abnormalities either!"
Initially, Danzo suspected Shisui's genjutsu. But his own chakra was fine. What's more, even the strongest genjutsu couldn't drag all of them into an illusion at once—especially not with Shisui weakened from using Susanoo.
"Mobaku, attack!"
Danzo roared fiercely. His summoned beast understood instantly, letting out a low growl. Its long nose locked onto Shisui as it inhaled powerfully.
Mobaku's suction technique was extremely powerful. In the original story, Danzo used Mobaku's inhaling ability combined with his Wind Release to literally break through Sasuke's Susanoo. However, just then, after Mobaku unleashed the technique, Danzo nearly exploded with rage.
As Mobaku inhaled forcefully, dust rose around Shisui. Green grass and trees were all swept up in the hurricane winds. Yet none of the plants were pulled toward Shisui and his Susanoo like Danzo expected. Instead, they passed right through Susanoo and flew directly toward Mobaku.
"What kind of jutsu is this?!"
Danzo felt like his chest would burst from fury. They'd been fools to think this Shisui was the real one—trying to stop the escaping clone by killing this decoy. But who could've guessed the departing figure was the real McCoy, while this one left behind was nothing but a phantom?
As countless trees pierced through his body, Shisui kneeling on one knee and his external Susanoo suddenly rippled like water. Then, under Danzo's wide-eyed shock, they vanished entirely.
"Shisui Uchiha!"
Danzo roared in fury, immediately canceling the Summoning Technique and sending Mobaku back. He hadn't expected Root to have nearly mobilized its entire force, only to still fail to capture Shisui Uchiha. Worse yet, that strange clone at the end had no offensive capability whatsoever—yet not a single ninja present, many of them Sensor-types, noticed anything off. Still, it wasn't a complete failure. Shisui's right eye had been successfully obtained and was now ready for transplantation into Danzo's own body. And more importantly, it was time to step up the plan against the Uchiha clan. He couldn't afford to wait any longer.
"Cough! Cough!"
While speeding rapidly through the forest, Shisui felt the message surge through his body from his Illusionary Clone. He spat out a mouthful of blood but wore a relaxed smile on his face.
"Thank goodness I had this Illusionary Clone; otherwise, I wouldn't have escaped this time. Still, my body can't hold up anymore."
As he checked his condition, Shisui couldn't help offering a bitter smile. At that moment, simultaneous ninjutsu attacks came from all directions, completely sealing off every possible escape route. If he hadn't overdrawn the power of his Mangekyo Sharingan and drained his chakra to forcefully materialize Susanoo, he might've been dead already.
However, his current condition was far from good. Overusing his eyes had drained most of the Mangekyo Sharingan's power. Even Kotoamatsukami, which he hadn't even used yet, was now on cooldown. What's worse, the intense burst of ocular energy moments ago caused agonizing pain in his eyes—as if they were being slowly sawed by a dull blade.
And his body? It was in equally terrible shape. To manifest the matured second stage of Susanoo, he had forcefully extracted massive amounts of chakra, overtaxing his reserves. As a consequence, his life itself was now gravely endangered.
"But I can still last a little while longer—long enough to finish what needs to be done!"
Thinking about what he needed to do next, Shisui let out an involuntary sigh. He hoped Itachi would be able to carry such a heavy burden.
Along the Naha River, Itachi Uchiha stood silently, staring down at the flowing water below. Recently, Danzo had approached him with details of an alleged coup plot by the Uchiha clan. This left Itachi feeling deeply unsettled. Though he wanted to deny such claims, Danzo had produced solid evidence. Just thinking about that masked man with one eye made Itachi clench his fists unconsciously. If what the masked man said was true, then the world was about to descend into chaos.
Earlier today, Shisui had told Itachi to meet him here by the Naha River at dusk to talk about something important. With a troubled heart, Itachi decided to come early and clear his mind.
"Crackle!"
The bushes suddenly rustled, catching Uchiha Itachi's attention. He turned around in confusion—hardly anyone ever came to this place. And if it really was Shisui approaching, with his mastery of the Shifting Body Technique, there's no way he'd create such noticeable noise.
Yet in the next instant, the figure bursting from the bush left Itachi completely stunned.
"Sorry, Itachi. Must've been waiting a while, huh?"
Even though he was hurting all over, Shisui's smile remained warm and calm.
"Itachi, what the heck happened to you?"
Itachi could hardly believe his eyes. Was this really Shisui standing before him—clothes in disarray, face streaked with blood? And… his eyes… "Shisui… where's your right eye?!"
