Shisui's right eye socket was sunken and empty—an unmistakable sign that his eye was gone.
"Yeah, Danzo took my right eye!" Shisui chuckled casually. "But hey, at least I still have my left one!"
"Let me go deal with him!" Itachi Uchiha's face flushed with fury as he stepped forward, ready to charge.
"Don't go, Itachi! You're no match for him!" Shisui blocked Itachi's path. Still catching his breath from the confrontation, he went on, "Itachi, you have a more important mission to carry out!"
"Itachi," Shisui continued, "a lot of people in the Uchiha clan are already thinking about rebelling—they want to stage a coup and take control of Konoha. I planned to use [Kotoamatsukami] to control the elders who intend to start this rebellion, to prevent war between Konoha and the Uchiha. Unfortunately, Danzo didn't trust me."
At this point, bitterness filled Shisui's expression. Even after being treated like that by Danzo, he still held no resentment toward Konoha. Instead, his mind remained preoccupied with worries about its peace.
Chapter 65: Itachi's Mangekyō [Lower Part] [First Update]
"A coup?!" Itachi Uchiha fell silent. All the evidence Danzo showed clearly indicated the Uchiha clan was plotting a rebellion—no matter how much Itachi wanted to deny it, there was no way to ignore the truth.
"Listen, Itachi," Shisui spoke softly. "I don't have much time left. Even if I wanted to stop this now, I couldn't do it anymore. So, I want to entrust this mission to you."
Suddenly, Shisui grinned. Before Itachi could react, he suddenly thrust his left hand forward and tore his own left eye from its socket.
"My Mangekyō contains [Kotoamatsukami]—it should be able to help you. Hide this eye well. Never let anyone know it's in your possession, or you'll be in serious danger!"
Shisui handed the eye to Itachi. Once word spread about such terrifying ocular power, countless people would likely try to seize it, unable to resist temptation.
"Shisui, I'll take you to find Sakura. She should be able to heal your wounds!" Itachi refused to take the eye, instead trying to move forward to help Shisui seek medical aid.
"No need, Itachi." Shisui shook his head and declined. He knew Sakura could save him—but what good would it do if he lived just to be hunted again? The Sharingan's full power can only be unlocked when both eyes are together. To ensure the safety of the left eye he had given to Itachi, he had to die—and die in a way that completely shattered his body.
"Itachi, the Uchiha and Konoha are in your hands now."
With firm determination, Shisui forcibly placed his left eye into Itachi's palm. Then, with one push, he shoved Itachi aside. His body went limp and fell backward.
"Shisui!"
In panic, Itachi tried desperately to grab hold of Shisui, but it was already too late. His hand barely touched Shisui's fingertips before slipping away instantly. Helplessly, he could only watch Shisui fall into the Naha River below. The raging river swallowed Shisui's form within moments.
Itachi Uchiha gazed down at the river, silent tears slipping from the corners of his eyes. Within his eyes, the three tomoe of the Sharingan quietly emerged and began to spin rapidly until the three pitch-black tomoe transformed into a triangular shuriken-like shape.
"So this is the Mangekyō Sharingan?"
Itachi Uchiha reached up and touched his own eyes. Suddenly, he understood why Kakashi Hatake had looked so sad when speaking about the Mangekyō Sharingan before.
"Don't worry, Shisui. I'll use your strength to protect Konoha!"
He stood up, determination burning in his eyes. He would never allow Shisui's sacrifice to be in vain.
What Itachi didn't realize, though, was that Shisui's body hadn't even been carried off by the river. At the exact moment Shisui made contact with the water, one blue and one green rune silently appeared on his wrists. Then, the blue rune flickered slightly, and Shisui vanished instantly from the scene.
Inside Sakura's bedroom, Shisui lay on the bed—his eye sockets sunken, his breathing weak, as if death could take him any second.
"Phew… Good thing I prepared in advance."
Sakura's figure suddenly appeared. Seeing that Shisui still had a pulse, she let out a long sigh of relief.
She had already placed two different runes on Shisui earlier—one contained the power of the Space Stone, teleporting him here the moment his life was in danger; the other held the power of the Time Stone, which would activate if Shisui died, freezing time around his body to give Sakura time to save him.
"Thank goodness he's still alive. Guess we won't need the time rune after all!"
Looking at Shisui's current condition, Sakura couldn't help but let out a sigh. He was someone willing to sacrifice himself for Konoha's peace. For Konoha, such a person was an incredible asset—especially now, when Konoha was struggling with a lack of experienced fighters. Yet, in the end, Danzō had ruined everything. That man truly deserved to die.
A green glow spilled from between Sakura's fingers, enveloping Shisui like a wave. Just like rewinding time, the sunken skin around his eyelids slowly puffed back up, blood gradually vanished from his cheeks, and his weak breath steadily grew stronger.
When Sakura finally pulled her hands away, Shisui outwardly looked exactly the same as he always had.
"Snap!"
"Wake up!"
With a flick of her fingers, Sakura called out. On the bed, Shisui blinked twice before abruptly sitting upright.
"Huh… huh? Where am I? Wait, shouldn't I have jumped into the Naha River and shattered my body to pieces? Why am I still alive?!"
Shisui opened his eyes wide, touching his body in confusion. There wasn't a single trace of pain, his chakra flowed freely inside him, and even his eyes remained intact in their sockets.
"That's obviously because of me!"
Looking at Shisui, Sakura asked, "Any takeaways from this little adventure, big brother Shisui?"
"Takeaways?" Shisui looked even more dazed. His brain still hadn't caught up with what had just happened.
