The frenzy reached its peak.
Countless soldiers wanted to join Good's newly formed unit, eager to serve under Admiral Reckless Maniac.
All around, Garp, Tsuru, the three admirals, and other Marine high command were stunned by Sengoku's announcement.
They hadn't expected Sengoku to relinquish so much authority… and without even seeking approval from the Commander-in-Chief, Kong. Wouldn't this invite punishment from above?
But they also understood—Sengoku was building momentum. And for the coming war, such a move benefited the Navy greatly.
In the crowd, a Marine asked, "Vice Admiral Onigumo, fifty billion in rewards!"
Onigumo laughed loudly. "Hahaha! Bounty or not, I don't care!"
"But I won't join for free."
Then he clapped a young soldier beside him on the shoulder and shouted, "This kid has the power of the Ice-Ice Fruit! If he joins Good's unit, you better teach him well, Aokiji!"
Aokiji sighed helplessly.
"Ice-Ice Fruit, huh…"
"Garp, you should join too!"
Garp burst out laughing and joined Onigumo's side as well.
With Garp and Onigumo setting the example, vice admirals and other high-ranking officers quickly signed up for Good's unit.
Aokiji gave Onigumo a long look and muttered, "If it were you, could you earn that much bounty?"
Onigumo fell silent for a moment before smirking. "The bounty of a Yonko, at least!"
Aokiji: ...
Akainu: ...
This bragging was outrageous.
Time passed, and as the top brass dispersed back to headquarters, the square outside was still boiling with excitement.
Lines of Marines queued up, all desperate to enlist under Good.
But the unit had a limit—only one thousand soldiers. The giant flagship, plus two escort vessels, could carry no more than that.
Good didn't care to command massive armies anyway, so he capped it at one thousand.
The name of the unit was as blunt as the man himself: the "Reckless Maniac Unit."
In the crowd, Helmeppo glanced at Koby enviously. "Koby, should we sign up too? Maybe we'll get lucky and be chosen to sail under him!"
"Think of the adventure!"
Koby hesitated. "That's not right… If Vice Admiral Garp finds out, he'll kill us! Wouldn't this be betraying him? He's trained us since the beginning…"
Still, his eyes gleamed with longing.
"Don't be scared," Helmeppo pressed.
"Garp is still in headquarters. Even if we join Good's unit, we'll still be based here. What's there to fear?"
Despite his worries, under Helmeppo's constant persuasion, both of Garp's students soon joined the line.
Meanwhile, in headquarters, Garp sneezed. He had the nagging feeling something bad was about to happen.
Inside the meeting room, the high command had gathered.
Sengoku said gravely, "Good, this time you'll personally escort Kaido to Impel Down."
Good didn't mind at all and happily agreed.
He remembered Magellan from before—hadn't that guy seemed oddly reluctant to part with him? Or was it concern?
Good, with his sacrificed IQ, couldn't tell the difference, but he figured Magellan had said something kind. That was enough reason to look forward to seeing him again.
With the task accepted, Good prepared to depart with Tsuru and Gion.
But then Sengoku recalled something. "Oh right, Good, one more matter."
Good stopped and grinned. "What is it, Fleet Admiral?"
Sengoku sighed. "Chaton just handed me a request… full of nonsense I barely understood. Something about you being his ancestor, his role model, the ultimate man… Anyway, he wants to join your unit, to follow you. Do you want him or not? I can reject it on your behalf."
Good waved casually. "Doesn't matter, Fleet Admiral. Whatever!"
With that, the matter ended, and Good set off with Gion, escorting Kaido to Impel Down.
Elsewhere, Impel Down.
Magellan, the warden, was… on the toilet when the Den Den Mushi rang.
He picked it up mid-squat.
On the other end, Sengoku's voice: "Warden Magellan, what are you doing right now?"
"Taking a dump!"
"..."
Sengoku fell silent, exasperated. "Warden, that's not something you need to say out loud."
Magellan replied bluntly, "Didn't you ask what I was doing? If you ask, I answer. If you didn't ask, I wouldn't say."
Sengoku muttered inwardly: Damn, that… actually makes sense.
He quickly moved on. "Magellan, you've heard Kaido has been captured, right?"
"Of course, of course!" At the mention, Magellan grew excited.
"Admiral Reckless Maniac is incredible! Fleet Admiral, where did you find him? He's my idol now—I admire him so much!"
Sengoku chuckled. "That's good to hear. Because Good himself will be escorting Kaido and the All-Stars to Impel Down. I want you to coordinate security."
The excitement drained from Magellan in an instant. He gasped.
"What?? Did you say Admiral Reckless Maniac is coming here?!"
"No, please! Fleet Admiral, send someone else!"
"Too late," Sengoku said flatly. "Good is already en route."
Before he could finish, Magellan nearly sobbed into the line—then abruptly hung up.
Sengoku stared at the dead line, baffled.
Why was Magellan so opposed? Why did the news of Good coming make him panic?
Could it be… did Good do something to him last time at Impel Down?
Meanwhile, Magellan stumbled out of the bathroom, barely pulling up his pants, and shouted:
"Full alert! Full alert!"
Deputy Warden Hannyabal, who had been lounging with his legs crossed, was stunned.
"What's going on, Warden? Nothing has happened in the prison. If you're this unstable, maybe it's better if I take over as warden!"
Magellan shouted back, "Admiral Reckless Maniac is coming to Impel Down again!!"
At once, Hannyabal jumped to his feet, his face pale.
The last time Good had come, he'd turned the prison upside down.
What chaos would erupt this time?
No one dared to imagine.
