Lopunny looked very much like a rabbit from Earth. It had pink eyes, a small nose, and long tufts of fur above its eyes. Its body was mostly brown, with cream-colored feet and fluffy tufts. But you shouldn't underestimate it just because it's a rabbit. They say even a cornered rabbit will bite, let alone one in the world of Pokémon. Besides, for Whitney to send it out at this point meant it had to have some incredible strength that she trusted.
On his side, with Tyranitar and Scizor having already fought, Natsui decided to send out his Dragonite. All three of these Pokémon were still in their growth phase and hadn't yet reached the level of Gardevoir or Charizard. They needed to be trained in rotation.
The two sides took their positions, and the battle was about to begin. When the referee dropped her flag, Lopunny immediately showed how unusual it was. It dashed toward Dragonite, using its powerful leg muscles to close the distance with just a few hops. As it neared Dragonite, it leaped high into the air, brought its feet together, and aimed a flying kick.
Although Natsui could have had Dragonite fly up to dodge, he decided to meet it head-on. If you like attacking from the front so much, then bring it on!
"Dragonite, use Dragon Rage!"
Facing the flying kick, Dragonite opened its mouth, and a blue wave of energy shot out. But just as the Dragon Rage was about to hit, Lopunny did an agile spin in the air, allowing it to hang in the air for a moment. The attack passed harmlessly underneath it, and then it continued its descent, kicking Dragonite in the stomach.
Oh? Natsui's eyes lit up. What incredible agility and kicking skill!
Wait, now's not the time to be admiring the opponent!
Snapping out of it, Natsui commanded again, "Dragonite, use Thunder Wave!"
When fighting such an agile opponent, the best way was to use electricity to slow it down. Sparks flashed from the two antennae on Dragonite's head and shot toward Lopunny. Against another Pokémon at such a close range, this would have likely resulted in paralysis. But with another burst of explosive power, Lopunny leaped backward, easily dodging the electricity.
From this brief exchange, it was clear that Lopunny was a much tougher opponent than the last two.
"Lopunny, use Quick Attack!"
As Lopunny charged again, Natsui yelled, "Dragonite, fly up high!"
Since this opponent was so tricky, Natsui had to use Dragonite's advantage and attack from above. Seeing Dragonite in the air, Whitney's expression grew serious. This was what she had been worried about. On the ground, her Lopunny could toy with its opponents with its amazing jumping ability. But once they were in the air, things got difficult.
"Use Wing Attack!"
Dragonite glided in the air for a few circles to build up speed, then spread its small wings and dove toward Lopunny. Lopunny, of course, didn't just stand there. It started running at high speed, trying to outrun the attack. But with no cover on the open field, there was no escaping an attack from the sky.
In an instant, Dragonite was right on top of it. But just as it was about to hit, Lopunny leaped high into the air again. However, the same trick wouldn't work on Natsui twice. The moment Lopunny jumped, Dragonite shot upward, appearing right beside it as its fists began to crackle with electricity. Thunder Punch, activated!
A fist crackling with electricity slammed into Lopunny's cheek. It all happened so fast that Lopunny couldn't twist out of the way this time.
BAM!
The Thunder Punch smashed into its face, knocking it straight to the ground. It rolled a few times, but its thick fluff cushioned the fall. However, just as it was about to get up, it felt its whole body go numb. It couldn't move. The paralysis had been triggered.
"Lopunny, get up!" Whitney yelled anxiously.
Lopunny tried its best, but it was no use. Seeing Dragonite fly toward it again, it tried to run, hoping to stall until the paralysis wore off. But its movements were sluggish. There was no way it could escape Dragonite's flight speed. Dragonite approached from behind like an eagle stalking its prey.
"Use Dragon Rush!"
At Natsui's command, Dragonite tucked in its wings and shot down like an arrow, slamming into Lopunny.
"Lopunny, dodge it!"
Hearing the sound of rushing air behind it, Lopunny looked back and saw Dragonite getting closer and closer, its big yellow head with its small horn growing larger and larger in its vision.
CRASH!
The impact sent Lopunny flying out of the battlefield. When it landed, its eyes rolled back, and it fainted.
The referee glanced down, then immediately raised her flag. "Lopunny is unable to battle! The winner of this gym challenge is the trainer, Natsui!"
I lost again...
Whitney sighed and recalled her Lopunny into its Poké Ball, her pretty face filled with unhappiness. These were her three strongest Pokémon, and she hadn't won a single round. She felt unwilling to accept it, but also helpless. She had been beaten, and there was nothing she could do.
Though she was feeling down, she quickly composed herself, put on a smile, and walked over to Natsui. Just then, Erika also walked to his side. Whitney looked at the handsome man before her and said sincerely, "You're just too strong. I couldn't beat you. Here, this is my Plain Badge. Please take it."
