Natsui looked down at the Plain Badge in his hand. Just like the gym's type, the badge itself wasn't very special. It was just a yellow diamond shape with a white border, simple and plain, much like the Mineral Badge from Olivine City. It seemed no one had spent much time designing it.
He took out his badge case and placed the Plain Badge in the last empty slot. Looking at the two full rows of eight badges, Natsui let out a sigh of relief. He had finally collected them all. Now, all he had to do was wait for the Silver Conference to begin.
After exchanging contact numbers with Whitney, Natsui and Erika said their goodbyes and left the Goldenrod Gym.
The first thing they did was head straight to the nearby Pokémon Center. Not because any of his Pokémon were injured, but to register for the conference ahead of time. This was a little trick Natsui had learned; instead of waiting in line to register at the event, you could go to any Pokémon Center and sign up as soon as you had all eight badges.
When they arrived, Natsui told Nurse Joy his purpose.
"Oh, you're here to register for the conference. Please give me your badges and your Pokédex."
She took his badge case, scanned it with a machine to confirm they were all authentic, and then connected his Pokédex to the computer. Natsui's information immediately appeared on the screen, and Nurse Joy naturally saw his impressive record.
Indigo Conference Champion.
Orange League Honored Trainer.
Whirl Cup Sea Hero.
Although he had only participated in three different major competitions, he had won every single one. This person is really amazing!
After a few clicks, Nurse Joy returned the badge case and Pokédex.
"Registration is complete. I wish you the best of luck in the conference."
"Thanks," Natsui said, then asked, "When does the Silver Conference start?"
"On the first of next month."
"And the location?"
"Same as every year, it will be held at the Silver Stadium in Silver Town, on Mt. Silver."
Mt. Silver on the first of next month. Natsui calculated in his head. There was still over half a month until the competition. That was more than enough time to get there and do some final preparations.
Outside the Pokémon Center, the two of them stood on the street, discussing where to go next.
Erika looked at him. "Where are we going now? Straight to Silver Town?"
"We still have plenty of time. As long as we get there before the tournament starts, we're fine. Since we have some free time, why don't I take you to see some other places first?" Natsui smiled. "Didn't you come here to catch Grass-type Pokémon? I'm sure there are other places you'd like to see, right?"
"Catching Pokémon is a matter of fate. But as for places I want to go..." Erika took her travel guide from her bag, flipped to the second page, and showed him a picture of a beautiful water city. "I want to see this place."
Natsui looked at the picture. The caption read: Alto Mare, the most beautiful city in the world!
The most beautiful city... that's a bold claim.
Since Erika wanted to go, Natsui had no objections. Alto Mare was located off the southern coast of the same peninsula as Azalea Town. It was far from the mainland and required a boat trip to get there. There was a cruise ship from Goldenrod City that went directly there. They made their plans and were about to head to the port when a few people blocked their path.
It was a strange group: a young woman who looked to be in her mid-twenties, and two very young boys.
"I finally found you! I've been looking for you for so long!"
Natsui was a little confused. He had never met them before. Why were they looking for him?
"And you are?"
After they introduced themselves, it all made sense.
"We are the Weekday Siblings. My name is Monica, and these are my younger brothers, Santos and Sunny."
Hearing that, Natsui couldn't help but sigh. It seemed that after beating one, two more came, and after beating two, the rest of them showed up. He had now officially met every single one of the Weekday Siblings.
"Hello."
Monica smiled. "I'm sure you know why we're here, right?"
"You want to battle me, is that it?"
"Of course."
"I knew this day would come. Let's find another place."
Luckily, they weren't far from the Pokémon Center. They headed back and went to the open-air battle field behind it. A few kids were already battling there. They walked past them and found an empty field.
Natsui already knew the rules: if he beat them, he would get their respective medals. So, neither side bothered to mention the rules. You could easily tell the relationship between the siblings just from their names, even without looking at their faces.
For example, when the youngest boy, who was only seven or eight, eagerly walked to the other side of the field, Natsui already knew his name was Sunny. From his name alone, it was clear he was the youngest of the Weekday Siblings. Natsui thought to himself that it was a good thing their parents only had seven children; an eighth would have been hard to name.
Seeing that another battle was about to start, the kids who were playing nearby stopped and turned to watch. They immediately recognized the siblings.
"Ah! It's the Weekday Siblings!"
"It's Miss Monica!"
"I can't believe we're seeing them here!"
They gathered around excitedly. Clearly, in their home region of Johto, the Weekday Siblings were much more famous than Natsui, who had won his championship in another region.
Sunny rubbed his nose, clearly enjoying the attention. He looked at Natsui and was the first to send out his Pokémon. With a flash of blue light, a Heracross appeared. The moment it came out, it raised its horn at Natsui, as if showing off its strength.
Natsui thought for a moment. He wasn't underestimating the boy because of his age, but sending out any of his main Pokémon would be like bullying him. He decided to send out his Eevee. If his opponent was a child, then he would use his own unevolved Pokémon.
