I waited for the elevator to close before turning to Damien, my pulse drumming.
"Damien, I promise you it's not what you think," I pleaded.
He narrowed his eyes. "So, I didn't see you touching him?"
"Oliver is just a friend."
He scoffed. "So I keep hearing."
I paused. "Is this how it's gonna be? You spiraling every time I touch someone?"
He finally turned to me, his voice a low, warning tone. "This isn't the right place to have this conversation, Aria."
"I told you I loved you. What else can I do to make you trust me?"
He scoffed. "Trust?"
"Trust isn't something I give easily, Aria."
The words stung, forcing me to take a step back. "So, you don't trust me? Is that what you're saying?"
He stared at me blankly for a couple of seconds without saying anything and I took another step back.
He didn't trust me.
"So, what the hell are we doing here, Damien?" I asked.
His eyes softened when he saw the hurt in my eyes and moved closer to me. "Aria."
