Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: The Holy Sword of the Planet

As Morgan's words fell, the fairies, who had been chatting and laughing amicably just a moment ago, all instinctively fell silent.

The atmosphere suddenly became tense and unpredictable.

The Fairy Queens exchanged glances, their eyes communicating what their words could not. Finally, a beautifully dressed fairy took the lead in breaking the deadlock.

"Mmm, that seems a bit... difficult, doesn't it, Vivian?"

Vivian was Morgan's name in the fairy realm, meaning 'mystery and grace,' and among fairies, it also carried connotations of 'wisdom' and 'life.' This name alone showed the deep respect and awe even the fairies held for Morgan.

"You know, the ownership of this Holy Sword was foretold when it was forged," the beautiful fairy explained, steeling herself for Morgan's inevitable displeasure.

But to her surprise, Morgan showed no signs of anger or impatience. She simply wasn't swayed by the words. "It matters not. I do not care for that prophecy."

Morgan acted as if it was nothing, but her words sent a jolt through the other fairies. You don't care, but we do!

However, seeing her attitude, the fairies finally understood that she was serious. And if Morgan was truly determined to take the Holy Sword of the Planet, they knew they couldn't possibly stop her. This was, after all, Morgan le Fay Pendragon, the ruler of the island, reincarnated from a Fairy Queen into a human by the secret arts of Uther and Merlin. On this island, perhaps only the legendary grand magus Merlin could trade a few blows with her in magecraft. And even then, it was highly likely Merlin couldn't defeat her; he could only hope to achieve a stalemate by constantly fleeing.

Realizing this, the fairies' expressions soured, but none dared to directly refuse her request.

"But, Vivian, even if you obtain this sword, you cannot wield it," the beautiful fairy said, making one last desperate attempt. "When this Holy Sword was forged, the fairies of Paradise inscribed a spell upon it. The Holy Sword can only be used by its destined wielder, and the current wielder is King Arthur. By the rules, we can only give the sword to him. Please, try to understand our position, Vivian."

"Hah." Hearing this, Morgan let out a cold laugh. "Rules? It's truly amusing to hear the word 'rules' from your mouth, Rhaegelleir."

"If I recall correctly, the rule you all set was that you would deliver two holy swords to humanity, wasn't it? So let me ask you, besides the Sword of Promised Victory, where did the other one, the Sword of Revolving Victory, go?"

At the mention of two holy swords, Rhaegelleir's expression changed instantly, and she reflexively retorted, "What do you mean by that? Hasn't the Holy Sword always been with me? I don't know what you're talking about."

"Do you really think I would say this without being certain?" Morgan's lips remained curved in a cold smile, looking at Rhaegelleir's denial as if watching a dying person's final struggles. "Don't forget, Gawain is a Son of Man whom I created."

"Even so, how would you know..." Hearing this, Rhaegelleir finally understood that her little secret was out. An embarrassed expression spread across her face. She couldn't fathom how Morgan knew she had prematurely given the sword to Gawain, the knight she favored. This sudden accusation had completely stripped her of any negotiating power.

At the same time, the other fairies began to look at her strangely. It was one thing to engage in private schemes, but to get caught and give the other party leverage was another. And to have done it with someone who was, in a sense, Morgan's son... Rhaegelleir had really stepped in it this time.

The rule of delivering the two sister swords to two human wielders at the same time was established by the fairies from the very beginning. Rhaegelleir had just tried to use "the rules" to refute Morgan, only to be exposed as the first one to break them. This meant the so-called rules no longer had any binding power over Morgan. After all, how could anyone trust someone caught stealing from their own post?

"How do I know? Hmph. I know far more than you can possibly imagine." With that, Morgan shot another scornful look at Rhaegelleir, whose face was growing paler by the second, and tapped her finger on the table. The meaning was clear: Don't force me to reveal more of your dirty laundry.

This time, Rhaegelleir said nothing, simply sitting in her chair with an ugly expression, silent.

After the atmosphere once again descended into a deathly stillness, another fairy stood up. Cang Ye noticed that this was the one whom Britomart I had been serving—the quest-giver from the previous 'volume' of Britain, The Faerie Queene, the Fairy Queen Gloriana.

Seeing that it was her turn to speak, Morgan's expression softened slightly. This was, after all, the true queen of the fairy realm now. Her status was certainly higher than the self-serving Rhaegelleir. As the current queen of Camelot, the largest territory in Britain, it was only proper for Morgan to show her a better attitude—though only slightly better.

"I wish to know, Vivian, what do you intend to do with the Holy Sword of the Planet after you obtain it?" Gloriana's gaze fell upon Morgan's cold and beautiful face. She had hoped to deduce Morgan's true intentions from her expression, but when she met those deep, abyss-like blue eyes, she instinctively looked away.

Morgan, as if expecting this question, answered crisply, "Simple. Find a suitable person and give the sword to them."

Hearing yet another unexpected statement from Morgan, the other fairies were stunned once more.

"That's it?" Gloriana couldn't help but ask, her gaze subconsciously shifting to Cang Ye, who stood behind Morgan.

"What, do you have a problem with that?" Sensing the disbelief and surprise in Gloriana's tone, Morgan raised an eyebrow, a hint of displeasure creeping into her voice.

"No, that's not what I mean. I'm just... a bit surprised," Gloriana said, turning her head away awkwardly.

Morgan sneered again. Of course, she knew what Gloriana was thinking. They were afraid she would seize the Holy Sword for herself and use it against King Arthur.

Looking up at the moon and realizing a great deal of time had passed, Morgan grew weary of the games, her tone laced with impatience. "Alright. I promise you that I will not be harsh on the one to whom I grant the sword. Whether it is Arthur or Vortigern, whoever can draw the sword, I will give it to them. How about that?"

Her words were clear. She didn't want ownership of the sword, nor would she deliberately hide it to cause trouble for King Arthur. All she wanted was to replace Rhaegelleir and become the Lady of the Lake from the epics who bestows the Holy Sword upon the king.

Although the fairies were suspicious of Morgan's seemingly pointless demand, they knew that if they refused, she might just take it by force. So, after a round of hushed whispers—which Morgan heard perfectly clearly—they finally decided to transfer the Holy Sword and the responsibility of bestowing it to her.

In fact, upon hearing that this was all Morgan wanted, the fairies were all secretly relieved. After all, fairies hate trouble. Their perception of the world is completely different from humans'; their actions are driven by amusement. In Celtic mythology, fairies loved to build their workshops in forests and lakes where humans could easily stumble in. Then, when someone accidentally entered, they would use the "offense" as an excuse to play all sorts of games with them. They were full of wicked humor.

Now, with the connection between the Inner Sea of the Planet and the Britain of reality growing weaker, it was becoming difficult even for fairies with official passage to travel back and forth. This meant their opportunities for fun were dwindling. Honestly, if it weren't for the prophecy of the fairy realm, none of them wanted to waste their precious time on the boring task of playing the Lady of the Lake and giving a sword to King Arthur. Now that Morgan was willing to do this thankless job for them, they were more than happy to oblige.

The happiest among them was Rhaegelleir. As the originally designated Lady of the Lake, she was supposed to spend her final days in Britain fulfilling this role. But if Morgan took her place, she would be free to do something she had longed for. For example, she could transform into an ugly woman and use moral blackmail to play with the emotions of the knight to whom she had given the Sun Sword, letting the famously gentle and pure Sir Gawain have a taste of love's bitterness...

Oh, just thinking about the look on his face as he forces himself to kiss the ugly visage I create... it gives me the greatest high!

With this thought, the ugly expression on Rhaegelleir's face vanished instantly. She joined the other fairies in agreeing to Morgan's request and was the first to hand over the Holy Sword of the Planet and its scabbard, Avalon, to Morgan.

After getting what she wanted, Morgan had no desire to chat any longer. After threatening the fairies that they had to restore the Sacred Lake to its original state, she left with Cang Ye without a backward glance.

It's worth noting that, as expected, Britomart remained with her mother. Although Cang Ye saw the reluctance and sorrow in her eyes as she watched him and Morgan leave, even reaching out a hand as if begging him to take her with them, he ultimately pretended not to see. After all, the Britain of the future was truly no longer suitable for Britomart. And he and Morgan couldn't stay with her forever. In essence, she should never have appeared in Britain and met him in the first place.

Perhaps in this life of Cang Ye's, Britomart's role was simply too small. He hoped that in the future, perhaps in the British Lostbelt or a Singularity, they would have a chance to continue their story.

However, she did leave him with a memento.

『Queen's Fortress: Wave-Breaking Shell』

This Gundam-like suit of armor was gifted to Cang Ye by Britomart, with her mother's permission and authorization, and his information was registered to it. The Noble Phantasm had now changed its shape according to Cang Ye's physical data and imagination.

And so, after bidding farewell to Britomart and the fairies, Cang Ye and Morgan took the sword and scabbard and rushed back to the castle in Camelot. Once they confirmed they were alone, Morgan tossed the blue-and-gold Excalibur to Cang Ye and said, "Try and see if you can draw it, Lamorak."
