Monica's POV
Over a week had passed since Morris had kissed me in my office—a moment interrupted by Jason's unexpected entrance. Since then, Morris had been conspicuously absent, spending his days with Darren in meetings across the city with various clients.
Monday arrived with its now-familiar greeting: a fresh arrangement of tulips on my desk accompanied by a handwritten note. True to his word months ago, Morris had never failed to deliver these weekly floral gifts, just as he consistently left chocolate cake on my desk during lunch hours. A month of separation now—too lengthy, too painful, too filled with yearning.
The office had quieted for the evening. I'd stayed behind at Darren's request to complete a proposal needed for tomorrow morning's client meeting. Michelle had departed hours ago, but Darren remained in his office, as did Jason, who playfully blew a kiss my way as he returned to his workspace clutching a coffee mug.
